Quick question:

If I program a part in myself can I then go ahead and add a drummers pocket feel and timing to my part without having the drummer touch anything else? And if so what would be the easiest way to go about this?

Thanks.

Easiest way is to use 'Turn Groove Into Style' and then load the drummer. Your programmed groove will be in the 'GROOVE' brain element.

What a coincidence, I came to the forum with almost the exact same question in mind!

Ralph, does your answer apply if all I want to force the drummer to play is one drum, for example write him a kick part, but let him go to town on everything else?

AND ... will the kick drum that I program inform the playing of his other drums (or would he play the same thing on the other drums no matter what I programmed the kick drum to play)?

Thanks!

Alexis: you'd want to do this:

- program the kick part manually in the bar editor and save the bar
- load the style you want to use and disable any KICK element in its brain (click on element header for menu)
- click Brain menu->Add->Groove Importer, set it to JSx Groove and then select your saved kick style

And, yes, some style and drummer brain elements take kick placement into consideration when doing their thing.

OK, Ralph, I'm a little bit farther along in the wonderful JS3 journey ... ready to ask the next question ... which drummers are you referring to?

And do they only adapt their drumming to supplied kick elements, or other drums too? ... Might some drummers say, "Well, this is what he's given me, kick and toms (for example) ... I'll see how I can work the rest of my drumming to fit around them".

Thanks Very Happy

Drummer models expect a full groove to work with. They will alter, add, remove on this given groove. Really depends on the model.

I'm a wrong in thinking it would be easier just to programme your beat then extract from player the comp filter - feel. That way it's only the feel pocket that's variable and nothing else will be edited by the drummer...?

Yes, that would work.
