|
|
I'm working on a track with heavy 16th note shuffle using Brush Swing/Brush Player. The trouble is that the fills being generated don't seem to shuffle at all. They're played straight, which tends to make the drummer sound like he's lost all his groove.
Under "Structure" I have it cranked way up, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any idea what I'm missing? |

Make sure 'No 16th Shuffling' in the brain menu fill options is NOT checked. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Ralph.
Yep, that would be it. Some day I'll manage to uncover all the cool hidden menus and options and actually remember them from session to session!
Much appreciated. |

Ralph,
It *seems* like maybe the shuffle element of the beta is different in the MIDI output (to Battery) than what is played internally. I can get a pretty tight shuffle using, say, the internal jazz kit, but when I push the MIDI out to Battery, every few measures the drummer sounds like he drops to straight time for a few hits. In other words, he sounds like he sucks. I've looked for a "make drummer suck when using MIDI" function but I'm not finding it.
Is it possible that inconsistent internal latency in the MIDI signal could explain it? |

Ableton Live (with a very high latency of 1024 samples because I'm running Melodyne in this project. Delay Compensation is turned on.
Is that the problem?
By the way, exporting the MIDI file from JamStix and reloading it onto Battery sounds just fine with no loss of shuffle, but of course I lose the interactivity of having JamStix directly linked to it. |

It sounds as if Ableton Live may have real-time MIDI timing issues at 1024. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
