hi!

I have an original that is quite old, but the main thing that was boring about it was the drum beat. I like the beat, but the feel and the fills are obviously plastic... anyway, I can't seem to get this beat to be the overall beat.

how do I use the midi file from the original song:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3305204/beat.MID

and what drummer/style should I use?

this might help me learn my way around jamstix!

here is a clip:

this is what happens when I put mike portnoy in it lol:

I recommend you use 'Import' style and load your MID into it. Try these drummers and see what you like the most:

Chad (Restrained Preset)
Danny (reduce kick accents)
Jason

what would be the process with using the song wizard this way? I do this and seem to get only fills every so often...

and when i got it to work somehow, all the velocities for that part were 127, the rest were more "normal" - how do I change that? Do I have to edit the midi?

- load 'Import' style and then MID file
- click 'Save Style Preset' in the brain menu
- access song builder and choose 'Import' style and then your just saved preset
- make sure verse and chorus length fits your needs
- create song

Let me know if this works for you and if you have any velocity issues afterwards.

still, all the hits are 127, as shown:

and heard:

should i just edit the original .mid?

perhaps all of the velos were really high in that - but there's no way to alter it afterwards? no way to just turn down the brain or something?

I made the midi to have all 100 velocity hits -

I have no idea how to change it after.

there seems to be some mismatches between certain hits - IE the ride is light, but the snare is hard... maybe I need to go into the drum vsti and change some settings but, can I alter how the groove works in jamstix?

Another way would be this:

- use 'Silent' style and drummer
- use 'Import' MIDI in the part menu to load the MID file
- now use the bar editor on one bar to adjust the groove as needed (use the arrow circle to preview). You can adjust velocities etc.
- when you are happy with it, click 'Turn Groove Into Style' in the bar editor menu and off you go.

This method basically let's you edit the MID groove in JS. Once done, you can use a drummer of choice to interpret it.

In the net Beta, you will be able to activate the 'Power' knob on the importer so you can amplify/attenuate velocity of the imported groove.

You'd make the fills the way you want and then use the power on the importer to line it up.
