So .. decided to dig into manual mode in the hope of trying to get a better understanding of it .. I'm using Tracktion and FLStudio:

- Imported a midi drum phrase on the Rhythm tab - the phrase is one of the 4-bar ones from prosonic. I first notice that I often get 4 different rhythms, but sometimes with some other 4-bar phrases i get 5 rhythms instead - with the last one being silent. Any ideas?

- Okay. I make an arrangement of 8 bars of various rhythms, then get the host to play through the 8-bars. Then I export it - I always seem to get the little dialogue that says I'd need to play through the arrangement first - either this always happens, or for some reason jamstix thinks I haven't played through it. Is the first true ? Or are there any ideas?

- I then export to midi file - after enabling midi output. Usually the midi file i end up with is longer than 8 bars - sometimes way longer (though only the first 8 bars and sometimes the first 9 bars ever turn pink in the arrangement). On Tracktion there is frequently a large 8/9 bar gap before the midi file actually contains any notes whatsoever. Any ideas?

- Lastly, I'm not sure how the master volume variance and the volume variance for each individual drum interact. Is it a cumulative thing? Or two multiplying factors?

Actually - after all that the end result drum track is quite usable - though it takes a lot of fiddling with to get around all of the above. I especially dont like the random element to how many bars i end up getting out of the midi-export.

Thanks in advance.

This can happen as a result of internal quantization of the import.

JS always shows that message.

That is odd. I recommend playing the song all the way from the beginning to the end and then trying export again. If you continue to have this issue, please send me a FXB file (Save Bank in Tracktion) of the Jamstix state to support[at]rayzoon.com, referencing this thread.

The global velocity variance affects all sounds but the kick, snare, and hihat/ride variances are controlled by their own sliders in the rhythm tab.

I hear you. The good news is that we are improving the MIDI export in Jamstix 2.

Thanks for the help Ralph - good quick response during the holiday season! Shocked

Anyway, I sent the support address an email with a problem that appears to be partially related to the gapped midi file.

I notice that jamstix doesn't load 'all at once' in tracktion. Sometimes the sounds are only loaded - and the plugin initialised once I press on the output tab. Before this I get no output from the plugin, and the plugin won't pickup the timing from the host.

I am wondering if the gapped midi files were a result of what seems to be jamstix not clearing things down properly when the arrangement is cleared down + the problem in the last paragraph.
