|
|
| I was pretty sold on the metal pak, after hearing the samples on the page, but then I tried the Jamstix 2 demo (which is minus the metal pak) and cant get anything near as good sounding using the VST plugin. The addictive drums demo version sounds a lot better than the Jamstix 2 demo, but the full version of AD is too pricey for me. I thought I had found something even better in Jamstix 2, but I cant replicate the results. I'm a newbie to music software... can anyone help me out here? I want to ensure I'm getting something good before I fork out the money. So far I'm just using mulabs for testing the VST plugins, for now. Mu labs seems to have no equaliser.. may be thats the problem? |

Although I love my JS and have the,"Metal Pack" it is one area where programs like AD beat JS hands down.It takes me a lot of tweaking and processing to get a really good,"Metal" sounding kit. However there is no program even close to JS for creating and Natural sounding kits and some great Electro ones and for most of my work it's exactly what I need and well worth the money.
Now here's the thing. Why not buy JS and then host the AD demo in it and mix the sounds
Then you get the best of both worlds |

Okay, thanks for the honest answer..
I absolutely loved the sound in the samples on the Metal Pak page, but I dont know how heavily they were processed. |

AFAIK they are not processed themselves but that does not mean that the recording has not been processed in other ways.Don't get me wrong you can get some good,"Heavy Kit" sounds with a little work.
Anyhoo have a listen to this done with Reaper and Jamstix.

I actually toned down the kit sound as it got,"Too" heavy |

Great song btw.
Umm, I wasnt too keen on the sound of the kit by itself at the very start... but then the rest of the song kicked in and it felt okay. And now its starting to grow on me. I guess it doesnt matter too much what I choose, as long as I get the bass and guitar right...
Btw.. whats Reaper? I'm still pretty green here.
Great solo and singing too btw. |

Reaper is by far and away the best Value Recording software with Forum support as excellent as Jamstix which is also a consideration when buying software.
http://www.cockos.com/reaper/
Read some of the forum as there's an amazing amount of free information on all aspects of recording.
http://forum.cockos.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20
It's free to download and use unrestricted for 30 days and then it's on the,""Honour" system e.g if you continue to use it,you buy it.Like Jamstix, worth every penny. |

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll save for Addictive Drums for now, and use Reaper too. |

This will not show of ful potential as the drums have not been multi channeled out.NO host processing.NO drum programming.Pure raw out-of-the-box and no mixing.
http://www.box.net/shared/j8cgt5p3j2
Note:Even with other drum software there's a lot of work to do in rock/metal tracks to get a good drum sound. There are NO quick fixes in recording. As posted it's best to mix and match two drum progams/sounds for this style and many recordists do just that even if it doesn't sound like they do.They will use a snare from one program and a kick from another depending on the project and or muli-layering of drum sounds to get what they want. |

Sounds good enough as-is I reckon. But what do these terms mean?
- not been multi channeled out
- NO host processing.
Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to record that for me. |

Not Multi channeled means that they are just coming out of Jamstix into my Host DAW(Digital Audio Wrokstation) software(Reaper) as a single stereo output.Jamstix can be set to send all the drums sounds out to their own seperate channels so you can treat/EQ/Compress and affect every sound individually which means you can change the sounds even more.
NO host processing means I didn't apply any effects to the drum sounds e.g they are not engineered.
I don't do drop tuning metal but this is a more processed and heavy kit sound,
http://stashbox.org/583908/BuryMeDeepFull.mp3
Which shows how versatile JS is. |

Okay, great!
Well, I think thats enough questions for now. I'm waiting for my guitar to arrive from another city (just moved), and for my IK StealthPlug USB to arrive from ebay. |

I did a couple of the "demo" songs for the metal pack. Well, actually they are all my tunes but "demo with danny" and "inject the poison" I mixed. There was a decent amount of post processing. Pretty much EQ and Compression. The core samples are fairly dry for the metal pack. I know, I recorded them. So there is a bit of work to get the exact sound you want but once you get your EQ and Compression settings, just save them as a preset and your done. _________________ Straight Jacket Sunday, Multiple Personality Disorder coming soon... |

This drum sound would work well in a metal track I think,
http://www.box.net/shared/cxmx6se9ro
It's the Dry Bonzo pak kit with a master limiter and BootEQ and ReaEQ+ReaComp on the drums. |
