I have an ESI-Pro WT2496 on my desktop system AMD 3000+, no clicks. I also use Jamstix on my live rig which is an aging P3-1.2 /1GB thinkpad, no problem there either. I know, big help I am.

TallPaul, have you tried to give highest priority to background tasks ?
check also all the tasks running in Windows Task Manager, try to kill all non vital tasks
CurrProcess allows multiple selection

Yup, had these already:
1. Visual affects: best performance
2. Processor scheduling: background services
The interesting thing is the pops/clicks got significantly worse with X908 then the previous install I had, with no other changes.
Couldn't find the CurrProcess program you mentioned at the link. I did find it here:

Thanks Ralph!

We've just released beta X9-9.
It's major feature is a completely revamped 'Load Mapping' screen. It offers filtering so you can reduce the listing to a specific sound Pak and it also shows the sample contents of mappings.
In addition you can preview mappings, just make sure you have a groove running. If you use 'Quick Preview' only the highest velocity layer for each sound is loaded for faster preview load times.
We hope this will make finding the desired mapping a bit easier.
Finally, there is now a 'Random' button in the mapping tab that will randomize kick, snare and hihats. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

This is great! But I need a tutorial. Do I need to manually hit a key on a midi device to do this? Can I just enter a midi note in cubase?
I have not used midi commands before. If I need to use my M-Audio Ozone to do this, what do I have to do to execute this command?
Thanks,
Geoff |

I don't have a MIDI device, but in Cubase LE, entering the D5 note in the key editor after a cymbal hit chokes the cymbal. Kewl. |

I don't have a MIDI device, but in Cubase LE, entering the D5 note in the key editor after a cymbal hit chokes the cymbal. Kewl. |
I've got two or three problems (somewhat related).
1. How to "enter the D5 note in key editor".
First I have to open a midi track, right? - I have not a recorded a mid track - drums are running from jamstix. I'm guessing that before I can open the key editor, I do have to record a midi part to open. So I send a set the input for the track to Jamstix, record midi data for the section with the cymbals hits I want to choke, pencil in D5 in the right places, delete the drum data, and set the output for the track to Jamstix - Am I on the right track? Would I want to check "play input" in the jam tab, or not?
2. I tried this. After setting midi track output to "Jamstix" and input to "not connected", Jamstix stopped playing. Actually, it was still running but there was no sound. The output tab showed no sound in any outputs. I couldn't find any reason for this so I closed everything down and rebooted. Did it all over again - same thing. So this leaves me totally stuck with no sound from Jamstix at all.
3. I brought this up before, and this is probably for Ralph specifically.
After this happened the second time, I thought I might get away with just closing Jamstix instead of rebooting. It did get my sound back, but , of course, when I opened Jamstix again, I had to reload my arrangement. All my accents were gone again - bars were dark like they hadn't yet been played for the first time. Remember, I mentioned this a few weeks ago when I was working on this arrangement. So this is the third time now - with considerable time spent searching, selecting, and manually inserting the right accents in my arrangement. I believe I sent you the fxb before - but I don't think we figured out what was going on. I think I concluded that I should never shut donw jamstix once i had started an arrangement in a song - but now I've done it again. Very frustrating.
I do have every confidence we'll find the solution - we always do!
Thanks,
Geoff |

Dinoman,
Your arrangement loss happens when you cause Cubase to unload the instance of Jamstix. There's nothing Jamstix can do about that. As long as you do not remove Jamstix from the VST rack, you should be fine. You can also save FXBs manually every now and then as backups to be safe.
The choking is much easier done then you've outlined. Simply add a MIDI track with input=some unused MIDI device and output=Jamstix. You should not specify 'Not connected' as the input because Cubase has the nasty habit of changing it to the output (Jamstix) when you reload the project causing MIDI feedback.
Now add a D5 note to the track where you want the cymbals choked.
That's it. No need to record anything or set 'Play Input' or anything else. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

How can I add a D5 to the track if I have no part recorded to add it to. I can't even open the key editor. Must be something simple again that I don't understand.

| In Cubase you simply create a midi part where you want in the timeline of the song and draw the note, that´s all. |

Thank you. I've got it. I'm not as familiar with Cubase as I should be. I appreciate your help.
