|
|
We will officially release Jamstix 1.02 in a few days with several fixes and a major enhancement: Live Loops. This is essentially what was announced and discussed in the "Plans For Live-Performance Aids" thread
Have a go at it and let us know what you think:
Jamstix Owners -> http://66.235.201.50/updates/jamstix102.zip
Demo Users -> http://66.235.201.50/demos/jamstix102demo.zip
Updated Manual -> http://66.235.201.50/demos/jamstix_manual.zip
- added powerful "LiveLoop" feature for on-the-fly switching between song sections for live performers as well as general-purpose looping inside of Jamstix
- added velocity tracking options (icon next to velocity slider). Velocity can now be controlled or biased by a MIDI CC
- added 'return to zero' button to the transport controls
- 'Change Cymbal' checkbox now also triggers crash cymbal on 1st beat after rhythm change (limited to once every 4 bars)
- fixed spacebar not working in Cubase after Jamstix tab switch until focus goes back to Cubase
- fixed problem editing rhythm names in n-Track
- fixed smoothing control recall problem
- fixed crashes when using Waves 5.0, Cubase SX and Jamstix for some users
- fixed arranger repaint issues in some hosts (grey areas)
- percussion MIDI-Out channel can now be set via ini.file
Many thanks to Greg Holmes for his suggestions and testing of LiveLoops! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yeah, the business types get pale faces when they see stuff like that. ("You were supposed to put that in 2.0 next year, not now and for free!!")
But this is it. No major additions until 2.0. We're fully focusing on JamBace and JS bugfixes. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| the good thing about software is that people will always want more and more features. You could probably come up with a bunch of stuff to keep people satisfied through version 10! |

I'll chime in at this point!
I had initially contacted Ralph via e-mail about support for Muse Receptor (a hardware VST host). Somehow the conversation grew beyond that...
I play solo Chapman Stick (and other instruments) live, and when I first came across Jamstix I visualized it as a substitute for a live drummer that I could "conduct" as I moved through the pre-arranged sections of a song.
That's not quite what it was at that time. It was (and still is) a tool to "humanize" a linear arrangement, plus also it's a totally free jammer. I needed something in between.
Well... the addition of LiveLoops gives me exactly what I was looking for. It allows me to rearrange the song live, according to my whims.
The end result is a flexible tool for live performance. It's as fun for the audience to listen as it is for me to play. A few foot switches to trigger the loops and an expression pedal to boost the velocity, and I'm set!
As you all know, Ralph is so responsive in his updates! No sooner had I mentioned an audio-in map, or an additive foot control for velocity, or loops and triggers, and - BOOM! - they were in there! As I've told Ralph, this is a testament to his developer skills, his source code design, and to Delphi as a development tool. I've certainly had no problems investing late nights in testing Jamstix, since I benefit so much.
Jamstix is going to take the live music world by storm, and I'm certain that it's going to be an award winner.
Ralph, all I can say is: Thank you. |

Well, the basic concept of LiveLoops was already in existence and some code planned for Jamstix 2.0 had been developed too, so it wasn't all that complex to get it going.
What I still don't understand is how Greg got us to release it for free
Well, seriously, we wanted to get something going in the live department now so we can have an even more advanced module in 2.0 based on your feedback.
Now that Greg is on the board I can relax a bit. He's much better than me in explaining the concepts behind LiveLoops... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yes, and an earlier post mentioned "labels". So Jamstix users have to be careful what they wish for... they just might get it! |
