we could meet in the middle - somewhere north of Erfurt ?
Better not tell Ralph about it, though ... meeting in the middle with him we might end up with wet feet. Crying or Very sad

Since this seems to turn into some kind of poll, here are my personal 2.73 ct :
I'd be more than happy to pay for rhythm expansion packs, preferably grouped as songs a la Groove Monkee or similar.
Could be sold as style paks (my favs: country, blues, rockabilly, classic rock, basic pop latin) or drummer paks (my favs: Jim Keltner, Kenny Aronoff, Stewart Copeland, Richie Hayward, Russ Kunkel, Dave Mattacks, Charlie Watts, song players with groove in general).
Of course you can do all that in JS already, but assuming that most JS buyers are not educated drummers themselves (I must confess I'm only a guitar player Rolling Eyes ), why not make it easy for us and at the same time collect all our pizza money before we can spend it ?
Might have healthy side effects, too. Wink
Seriously, the possibility of quick song idea sketches added to JS creativity and AI would make for an awesome combination.

But unlike other software I own, JS is already so good that I can easily wait for future developments while having lots of fun with it.
Now JamBassist is a completely different story ... Laughing

Of course, it depends how extensive the package is. I wasn't wanting to be insensitive to Ralph when I suggested it should be free. I wasn't thinking about large #s of patterns here - like how Ralph offered to add a bunch of basic fills when he has time to do it. It seems like a logical (and needed) addition - just like he is constantly offering updates to improve Jamsticks. That was my line of thinking.

What you are describing here is a lot more extensive than how I was thinking, and probably would require expansion paks. I know we can't expect everything for free. Perhaps a few sets of patterns might be added to an update, or to Jamstix 2 to get the thing rolling, and then expansion paks / style paks / drummer paks could be offered to those who wanted to persue that route.

Absolutely no problems with some freebies here, either. Wink
My post wasn't intended as a direct reply to yours, Geoff, more in general as this thread seems to collect several different ideas and wishes from us users concerning rhythms.
Have a nice day,

Excellent points from everyone! I don't mind paying for them, I payed for midi loops from another company, but would've much rather spent my money here, and I'm sure Ralph would rather keep it here. Since this was such an excellent idea, I wouldn't mind an excellent discount! lol

PostPosted: Tue Apr 25, 2006 3:12 am    Post subject: Can we expect to see new rhythms any time soon. Reply with quote

Embarassed Sorry to seem to beat a dead horse to death on this topic, but I was wondering how soon we might be able to see this happen. I am in the middle of many projects and three of the projects and their clients to do not want to go to the trouble of hiring and paying a live drummer for their demo albums. One album is rock (more southern rock feel), one album is contemporary gospel (mostly ballad styles), and the third is a country album. I would be more than glad to pay $15-$20 per group of rhythms (and from earlier post in this thread many others would also look forward to these) for a folder with some country styles that would cover most of the basics of country, another folder with same thing with ballad styles, and another folder with styles same thing with southern rock styles. Because of a combination of I am an imbecile when it comes to anything about drums (programming or playing) and I have just bought this program yesterday so I do not know how hard it is for people like the developer of the program and other master users on this forum who are obviously very talented at drums rhythms and programming them into jamstix, which you can see from the styles already created and by the demos songs on the Home page. But I do not know how long this would take even with people of this skill level. So what I am asking may be impossible and stupid to think it could be done, so if it is forgive a newb for asking a stupid question. I need these in the next two weeks which is the date that these three projects are needing to be wrapped up. It would be awesome if you could do this before then, but if not I would still buy those 3 months down the road, because I am in love with this program
Well if you could let me know if in the next week or so is it possible for a batch of new styles to be built in these three categories, more categories if possible, and what I would owe you for them, but as I said, if not, I will wait however long need be. I certainly am not asking you to try to do this if it would in anyway take away time you need to be doing other things for this product that will help the whole group instead of just a smaller amount of us that would like these styles. I only ask you to do this if you have time with out taking away from anyone else’s needs. Especially do not take time away from JamBassist whe we are all dieng to see in action after your track record with what you did with drums and drumstix.

May God Bless Your Day
Thank You Very Much
Russell

Hi Russell,
Rhythm packs won't be addressed until after the JamBassist release.

However, there will be some more rhythms and fills in the Jamstix 1.6 update, which should be released around May 8th. Some of the rhythms will be grouped in sets, one of them is a shuffle set that may come in handy for your needs.

Sorry that we cannot fulfill your needs quickly on a pay basis but we are very busy with JamBassist, ePak and JS 1.6.

Russell, have you already gone through the preset rhythms delivered with Jamstix systematically?
I think there might be already everything in there to fulfill your needs.
Maybe you have to build some alterations to pre-existing rhythms, but that should be all you have to do.

PostPosted: Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:10 am    Post subject: Mostly high hat problems Reply with quote

Thanks for your answers. Yes I have checked out most all of the rhythms and mostly like someone else said earlier I found closest to what I was looking for in the category :basic: set of rhythms. I can do I believe very well programing the kick an snare I want in the Jamstyx page, but where I am really lacking is in programing the high hats, which in my opinion on most drum patterns this is where most of your feel and style comes from. Example you can take a basic kick on 1 and 3 and snare on 2 and 4, and by changing the high hat patterns build tons of rhythms that are totally different without changing the kick and snare. I am studying the manual and I am learning but like I said earlier I do not know much about programing drums period not being a drummer and I aslo am having trouble understanding how using the different funtions in the two columns under high hats to get what I am looking for. But no matter what this program is awsome. All my clients who have heard it said they could not tell the difference in it and if I had recorded drums live. Hopefully that is a compliment to Jamstyx and not a put down of my drum recording skills (Ha. Ha.) since I have been doing this professionally for years. Looking forward to the new rythms in 1.6. , Jambassist, and future ryhthms when you get time after completing Jambassist.

May God Bless Your Day,
Russell

Russell, it´s very easy to see (or hear) what the columns are for in the Hihat control.
Just take a basic rhythm that you like, go to the rhythm tab and watch the Hihat control. You see how the Hihat pattern is build up, you can even solo it.
Now you only have to click differently, drag a bit for different volume and: Voilà, you´ve just built the first alteration to a pre-existing rhythm.
Save it and you´re done.
It´s that easy. No need to be a skilled programmer here.
