I am using Sonar 5.01 and trying to insert Jamstix as a softsynth, but I can get it to work. Could you give me step by step instructions on what to set the MIDI inputs and outputs to, what channel and bank do I use? What do I set the jamstix audio track input and output to. I have used jamstix before on different versions of cakewalk, but I used to just dump it into the FX bin of an audio track. I want to do it the right way, but I can't figure it out. I know that Jamstix must have a running host, and have audio tracks in place for it to work with. Please help, sorry I am such a knob. If it helps to know, I am using a Edirol 66 audio interface.

All you need to do is Insert->DXI synth->Select Jamstix and then in the 'Insert DXi Synth Options' dialog that opens, make sure to check the following items:
- MIDI Source track
- All Synths Outputs
- Synth Property Page
And that's it. Now either use manual jam and build your arrangement or click 'Free jam'. Let me know if you need further help. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

thanks for the quick reply, but...I am still having problems getting it to all work together. Here is the problem I run into. After I insert jamstix as a softsynth as you recommended, when I hit the play button in Sonar (which should start playing my audio tracks and the arrangement I have selected in jamstix) I get nothing. The tracks don't play, the time bar does not advance in Sonar (if that makes any sense.) Any suggestions.

| If you don't have any MIDI or audio data happening, when you hit 'play' nothing will happen. What I usually do is create a MIDI track with a note on it that's many minutes long, and then mute the track. That way when you hit 'play' the time bar will actually advance. |

I also ran into this. I just set loops points, quick and easy! _________________ T-bonesplace.com |

This is because Sonar (unlike most other hosts) does not play if it thinks there is nothing to play. Use the suggestions from Gregjazz and THERAKED1 or any other action that makes Sonar see something to play at the end of your song. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for the help guys. I actual have had audio tracks in my project all along, so that isn't the problem. I tried to insert a couple of other softsynths, just to see, and I ran into the same problem I am having with Jamstix, so it looks like it's a Sonar issue. I am going to post over on their boards to see if anybody else has run into this issue. Thanks again for the ideas.

Is this also required to use the Free Jam? |

It is required whenever Sonar doesn't want to play otherwise. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
