hi!
i have just discovered this software, which seems very promising.
i'm downloading the demo and i hope to try it soon.
however, i have a couple of (dumb?! )questions...
1) i'm used to load my drumsets in kontakt2, with custom key mappings (no GM).
i understood that it is possible to "link" and external "audio engine" to jamstix and i suppose i will be able to play my K2 set from jamstix... is this correct? of course i'd like to play K2 drums in realtime, and not export a jamstix track in midi then play K2!!
i think k2 is completely dirrerent from DFH, battery or other drum plugins, and after having seen the video tutorial i don't think that jamstix will be able to load K2 "into itself". am i wrong?
2) is there a list with all the genre and style of playing included in jamstix? in particular, are genre such as heavy metal, hard rock, progressive metal, and other "niche" genre of metal included in jamstix?
are there some genre dealing with electronica or any other genre which uses synthesized drums and not real drums?
3) what are the limitations of the audio input described in the main page? ( Analyzes MIDI input as well as audio input (with limitations) in real-time and develops rhythms and adjusts parameters instantaneously, giving you the feel of playing with a human drummer)
4) does it supports also ryhytm with percussions? conga, bongo, etc etc...
thanks for the help!

Yes, you can link things up either by loading K2 into Jamstix or by routing the MIDI output of Jamstix to K2 (depends on host). You can select the MIDI notes used by Jamstix for each sound so you can line Jamstix up with the non-GM layout of your K2 drums.

K2 comes in a VST version, which you should be able to load into JS. Try it out with the Jamstix demo to be sure.

Jamstix isn't a genre-based player per se. You can select rhythms from its library, which cover rock, pop, blues, jazz, latin etc. However, the free jam component of Jamstix develops original rhythms on-the-fly, which alllows you to get drum tracks that are not "canned". The rhythm generator is geared toward rock/funk/pop/latin.
Check out the demo to get a feel for the generator aspects of JS as well as trying out the library rhythms.
Finally, an often overlooked aspect of Jamstix is the built-in arranger. We have many customers that use JS mostly to develop their own rhythms (or modify library rhythms) and quickly arrange them with fills etc.

When audio jamming, Jamstix only utilizes the volume of the audio signal whereas in MIDI jam, Jamstix also uses a harmonic and rhythmic analysis of the input signal.
However, Jamstix derives a variety of decisions merely from the volume analysis, such as velocity, hat/ride switching, snare head/side switching, complexity reductions etc. Furthermore, I know many drummers that pretty much only 'analyze' your volume when they jam with you

The full version of JS comes with a small percussion function (shakers, cowbell, jam block, tambourine, chimes) that can be used to get a basic percussion layer on top of the groove. It is not a full-blown percussionist function, which will release in the future a sa separate plugin. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
