Background services can be configured from :
Start / Parameters / Config Panel / System
And then it's in Advanced thumbnail
There click on Performances Parameters
Then it's on the second thumbnail : Advanced

Thanks Bill Gates Wink
Excuse my english version of menus. Here I have a french version of XP.

Hi Paspallum,
look here for detailed instructions on tweaking XP fur SX :
http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=11774
and remember : if you want to be on the safe side, do one tweak at a time, reboot, test, next one ...
Take notes of what you do and where on a piece of paper, not electronically.
Having a recent image of your C partition doesn't hurt, either.
That said, most of the tweaks CAN be done in one go and are fairly risk free, but if you're doing it for the first time, don't hurry.
Good luck, Rhino

Hey,

I was about to ask for info about tweaking my computer - I've done none, and I'm sure I could use it. The tweaks found in the link above - would they mostly be useful for any recording set up? How much of it would be for SX specifically. I'm using SL1 - I'm guessing the same tweaks would be good for me, but since I know nothing about this I thought I'd look for feedback first. If this particular guide is more SX specific, can you suggest another?

Thanks,
Geoff

These tweaking instructions are not SX specific. I recommend to try them out one by one.

Like Doc said.
Some of those tweaks are not even that essential on a modern PC any more, but none of them hurts.
Notable exception: Better leave colours @ 32 bit, all graphics adapters from the last 5 years in fact work more efficient @ 32 bit than @ 16 bit.
If you've done all that you should be on the safe side.
There's more if you want to be 100% perfect, but that's deeper stuff possibly involving moving cards and HDs around, and these tweaks are very dependent on your specific hardware.
I'll be glad to help if necessary, but on an individual basis, and you should have some experience with PC hardware, otherwise I'd recommend finding someone knowledgeable in your neighborhood to help you.
Cheers, Rhino
