I may have posted this before...if so, apologies!
I got a new pc not long ago. 3GHz, 1MB RAM, can get 4MB total, latest X-Fi soundblaster card and the works.
Now, there's always this tiny hiss in my earphones when I plug in! What can it be? The cooling fan? Something else? Help!

Cool Sorry, I couldn“t resist... Smile
Could it be the headphones themselves?

Computers - being digital devices - don't 'hiss'.

What you hear is system noise from the analogue section, which has been converted to digital and back again. Exactly where this noise is coming from is impossible to say from the information given, but my first port of call would have to be the soundcard itself - particularly if you using the mic input.

Go to the Windows mixer and mute all inputs that you do not need. All analog inputs are suspect, including analog CD audio and of course the mic input.
