Douglas has mapped the kit for Kontakt. How long till Jamstix will be able to take full advantage of this great library, includung the left and right hand mapping, etc.

Thanks

Douglas recommends the round robin function which will give you a similar effect.

We will have native LR support for snare and toms in NS7 at some point but the round robin function may be even better, much like the x-sample function in the Jamstix internal sounds, as it varies more than just L and R.

The RR feature works great. I'm not sure if the L/R would really give any advantage at this point?

I think RR would be a better route to go rather than L/R... but that's just me.

Yes, I recommended round-robin for now, but it's not ideal. If Jamstix were to support L & R hands, that'd be better; there is a subltle, but definite, reaslism added when you stick things correctly.

Kontakt has a script which allows for random velocity, which, works better than round-robin and still allows things to be sticked correctly.

Douglas.

Sorry for digging out this old post, but seeing as I loved the old NS7 (free) kit, and I'm hopefully a NS7 (commercial) user, I'd like to pick up the old ideas about NS7 being able to be triggered by JS2.

Since the major samplers (Halion 3/Kontakt 2) are taken care of, it should be easier to access, also for the developers. The thing is however... NS7 uses a lot of expression (unless that's triggered automatically), and it also has different hits for left and right hand. While the round-robin or the custom-velocity features sure might add a lot to the realism, nothing can beat a variancy in hitting left/right kick/snare seperately.

Thing is... is this NS7 mapping totally dropped now, or does somebody maybe have a good maping for Kontakt? I was thinking of something like "regular kick triggered by JS2 varies between left feet and right in K2", but I guess this just isn't possible. Thinking of something like the video demo from Stemage with his Metroid Metal track (great GUI, shared a couple of eMails with him).

So yeah... any news on that end?

We never implemented expression support for NS7 due to the low market share of the NS7. However, you can now map left and right snare and toms in JS2.

The Kontakt patches for ns_kit7 already have automatic "round-robin" hits. You can map left/right hits in JS2 within the JS2 kit editor for snare and toms, but unfortunately, not for the cymbals. Kontakt can be programmed to alternate hits, but it's not the same as having JS2 control it.

Okay, let's ask the other way... did anybody at least try to create a routing program for JS2 yet? And what about that expression pedal thing, that's only important for the foot pedal/hihat right?

Would really love to have something to be able to use NS7 in JS2. Then again, I don't have it yet.
