I can't seem to figure out how to set up Jamstix in Cubase VST 5.1 to get it to work. Has anyone been able to get it to work in VST 5.1?
Thanks,
Rob |

I use Cubase VST 32/5.1 and got Jamstix recently. I had no problems setting up in Cubase in spite that I'm green with VSTi's generally.
What exactly are you having a problem with regarding Cubase & Jamstix?
Is the Jamstix program loading when you select a VST instrument? Are you hitting the 'play' button on the VST transport as well as Jamstix? When Jamstix mode are you on?

I too, am very green with VSTi's. Here's what happens: I load Jamstix into 1 MIDI/ VST channel and say, an electric piano in a 2nd channel. I start the transport on both Jamstix and Cubase and play piano. I hear the piano and I hear the drums in Jamstix, but I also hear piano being triggered in Jamstix. Could you please describe in detail how you set up Cubase and Jamstix to get it to work correctly?
Much appreciated, Rob |

Hi Robz
In the Options/Midi Set-up/Filtering, select the midi channel number that Jamstix is on, that should cure the piano notes playing.
That is how I do it, but that is using the multi record mode/layer.
Is that how you are using it in VST32/5.1?
Zapaxe may have a better way. _________________ john-studio64

Hi John,
Going to Options/Midi Set-up/Filtering and selecting the channel Jamstix is on cured the problem of notes from the piano being triggered by Jamstix. Yea!
But,
When I select Multi Record Mode/Layer and Active, I get no sound from the piano channel.
I'm quite lost as how to set this up to work in VST 5. Would it be possible for you to describe step by step how you set up Jamstix on one channel and another instrument (piano?) on another to get Jamstix to react to the piano input? It must be something obvious that I'm missing.
Thanks,
Rob |

Are you using a Vst Instrument Piano? or?
I have the Steinberg Grand on midi channel 1
I have Jamstix on Midi channel 4( any will do as long as its not 1)
Make sure Jamstix out is set to Midi 4, on the mapping page, or which ever channel you chose.
Then set filtering on that channel. ie 4
I mainly use SX3, but VST32/5.1 is on my internet computer, and it took me some time to set up with Jamstix.
Let me know how you go. _________________ john-studio64

John-
I've set up VST 5 as you have suggested- the Grand (I've got it too) on channel 1 and Jamstix on 4 (just so we're on the same page) and Jamstix out is set to midi 4, on the mapping page. Jamstix is set to Free Jam.
I start the Cubase transport and with channel 1 set to be active, I hear the Grand and the Jamstix drums. I see no movement in the barprint graph or the velocity slider and Jamstix does not react to the keyboard input.
When I set channel 4 (Jamstix) to be the active channel, I hear no piano (of course) but the barprint and velocity slider react to the keyboard play.
Once again, setting Multi Record Mode/Layer and Active on causes no sound from the Grand (when the active channel is either 1 or 4) but the Jamstix drums are heard.
I do appreciate your help, and maybe soon we can nail this and I can get back to making music.
Thanks,
Rob |

Hi RobZ
Are you activating the little speaker icons in the Multi record colum "R"which appears when you set multi record active?
You need to have them on the piano and Jamstix tracks.
Don't forget to midi filter on channel 4. Options/Midi set-up/Filtering
I'm here for a while, so let me know. _________________ john-studio64

Wahoo!
That was it- activating the channels in the "R" column. I knew it had to be something simple and obvious. I've used VST 5 for a few years now and haven't used the Multi Record function. I should get that manual back out and see what else I might be missing.
Thanks so much for your help John. Now it's back to the tunes!
Best Regards,
Rob |
