Hi,

I'm impressed with what I've seen and heard so far of Jamstix, and am eager to to purchase. Smile

However, I need some help. I'm a total beginner. I've just bought an electric guitar and a Line 6 Guitarport. I'm using the Jamstix demo with SAVIHost (I was using Audacity to record, but it isn't VSTi compatible)

I have a Creative Audigy 2 and am running XP Home with SP2.

The problem is I can't seem to get any input into Jamstix, and I don't want to fiddle with the settings too much, in case I mess up completely.

Even if you could point me in the direction of some reading material, that would help. i'm prepared to work at this! Laughing

Thanks in advance.

Ron

The key is to set the right input in SAVIHost. Go to Devices->Wave and select a proper input port. You also need to make sure that your current Windows mixer recordings settings are such that your guitar signal is set for recording.

If this is all done right, your guitar signal will cause a little red LED in the right bottom corner of Jamstix to light up as you play and the velocity slider will move.

Thanks for the really prompt reply, but I'm afraid I'm still stuck.

I can record in Audacity without any problem, so would I be right in assuming my Windows mixer settings are alright?

One thing puzzles me - in Audacity I can select Guitarport as an input, but in SAVIHost I only get the options
'No wave',
'MME: SB Audigy 2 Audio (DF00)',
or 'MME:Microsift Sound Mapper'
i.e. no mention of Guitarport Confused

Sorry about this, but I did say I was a beginner! Smile

I'm not too familar with Guitarport so it may install a driver that is not compatible with SAVIHost. I recommend asking tech support for Guitarport on how to get its audio into SAVIHost.

Maybe a GP user looking into this thread can help?

Thanks again. I did a search earlier, and I saw a user called 'Doc' has a few Line6 products.

Doc, if you're out there, I need your help! Very Happy

Will do some trouble-shooting, but I need to install SAVI host first.

The main problem seems to be that SAVIhost is "losing" the ASIO Guitarport driver very easily or stops recognizing the existence of this driver.

I was able to to a short audio jam, but after stopping jamstix and restarting the driver wasn´t listed any longer.

My procedure:
1. Start Guitarport (a running Guitarport software guarantees that all the drivers are present). You should hear your guitar.

2. Start Jamstix.exe (i.e. the renamed SAVIhost.exe inside your Jamstix folder).

3. In SAVIhost >> devices >> Wave >> select ASIO Guitarport Driver.

If this driver is present, you should be able to do audio jamming with Jamstix now (switch to FREEJAM in Jamstix and you should hear drums following the velocity of your guitar playing. The velocity bar should be moving, too).

As I said above, I was able to do so for a few minutes, but then SAVIhost lost the driver and it wasn´t present in the dropdown menu any longer.
Restarting Guitarport and SAVIhost didn´t change this, only rebooting my PC did.
As a conclusion I wouldn´t recommend SAVIhost for this setup.
Otherwise my ASIO Guitarport driver works ok with my other hosts, Cubase SX3 and Ableton Live5, so I don´t think it´s a Guitarport driver issue but a SAVIhost issue.

I hope this helps a bit.

Good luck! Smile

Thank you.

I followed the steps you suggested, and successfully got everything working.

However, I have exactly the same experience as you - when I stop Jamstix then restart, the driver has gone.

But at least I'll be able to give it a try-out now. Smile

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Update - I decided to start using Ableton Live Lite, and I've got Jamstix working in it.

I just need to figure out how to use them both now! Very Happy

I'm using a Line6 toneport and traktion...I select the toneport drivers... and then I have to use audioM8 to get jamstix to respond to my guitar. Is it because I'm using traktion that I have to use this audioM8?

Nope. All the relevant hosts aren´t able to feed audio into Midi tracks. That´s what AudioM8 is here for.

We can actually get Jamstix to see audio input of the track it is on so that there is no need for audioM8. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work 100% all the time and we don't know why. That's why it's better to use audioM8, which is also more flexible.
