I love Jamstix w/ NS_KIT 7 (more and more), a dream couple!!!! I haven't been able to get demos on here, but I was happy Douglas came and posted his...

I think a cool idea for Jamstix would be a way to do "one-off" hits. Say we have 8 bars of the same rhythm, and in bar 4 we want a crash on bar 4, beat 1. Am I mistaken to think that, currently, we must either clone the rhythm in the arrange window and add a crash, then post it ... or MIDI-automate a cymbal crash probability of %100 in that particular beat?

What I thought would be kinda cool (unless it's already there)...is a way to insert one-offs in the actual rhythm contruction window...maybe as a red block, instead of the green ones that repeat...the idea is that the "one-off" would act just like an accent, happening in that measure only...

Thoughts?Smile

Both your methods will work. You could also make a custom snare or tom accent that adds the crash. When I have a minute I'll make one.

I just thought a cool feature (if practical) would be the ability to add "red blocks" (ones that happen that time, and that time only) in addition to "green blocks" (ones that repeat any time that rhythm is selected in the arr window).

Just a thought:)

They way I do this is play it through with the normal rhythm, then lock all the bars except the last one, then add the crash in the rhythm tab where you want it and reset that bar in the arranger and play it through and the crash will be played in the last bar only as the arranger will play the other bars the same way it did before you locked them...

No need to clone the rhythm or take up an extra slot in the arranger window.

After the last bars plays how you want it, lock it and then you can go back and remove the crash from the rhythm tab if you don't want it there for future uses of the rhythm

Rich

Thanks for the idea:) I will try it. At the same time, it kind of re-enforces my idea. Because it would mean, instead of using 4-5 steps to get a desired hit just using 1 step instead.

I only used "red" as an example of how cool it would be to insert a block of a unique color, and have it play back in that rhythm bar only...similar to an accent.Smile It might be hard to implement given the nature of the software.

I might just build a myriad of cymbal/kick accents when I get the time and keep them logged for that special time:)

Maybe that would solve it without having to reprogram! haha (as Ralph so kindly offered to make an accent:)

Hey Lion Tone..
I haven't encountered this cymbal problem yet... I've not yet got so far with an arrangement to need to worry about cymbal placement.

I'm just adding this post to say that I'm 'with-you' in agreement that sometimes with JS there is a solution to the problem but you gotta do five steps and change tabs and un-check this... and check that.. and then finally click again then come back to where you started...

Some functions need to be simplified and quiker to use.

You want to Check out my post relating to this issue... and add something there... your opinion?

Things like one-off hits and other 'per bar variations' will be easier in Jamstix 2 since it will use the new compound-pattern arranger that we are developing for JamBassist so you would simply add a single-bar pattern with the desired cymbal hit to the bar and Jamstix will merge the two patterns (base rhythm+one-off hit pattern) as it plays.

I have been thinking ablut this alot - though holding off on posting about it. I had been thinking that if you could click on a bar, which opens it in the rhythm tab, add a hit or make a change, and have it apply to that bar only - just like adding an accent applies to that bar only, it would address a lot of concerns and suggestions floating around here.

It sounds like this is going to be addressed in Jamstix 2 - is this something like you are talking about Ralph?

Of course, elsewhere you have told us that Jamstix 2 will have increased (maybe even unlimited) rhythm slots - so this also addresses the issue in a different way because you could save every change as a new rhythm.

If I have a correct understanding of this, the combined new features will DRAMATICALLY simplify arranging in Jamstix. (Changing rhythms, locking bars, changing the rhythm back created too many compliications).

You will see the new arranger in JamBassist. It will make these 'single bar clones' much easier.

Can't wait! . . . By the way - because we're all wondering, but trying not to ask too often - do we have a new ETA Question
