I thought I posted this question! It wasn't removed was it for some sort of forum violation? No email message or PM so I will ask again.
Was wondering of the two packages and to those that own both if they prefer one (BFD vs DKFH) over the other.
I am having problems with some of the cymbals in BFD so am looking to see how DKFH sounds. Is it general mapping, i.e. will it work well with Jamstix?
Thanks!!! |

Interesting, I must have not clicked submit or something late last night!
Anyway, hope I can find someone here that has both, (I have BFD) and would like feedback on DFHS with Jamstix and how they compare!
Thanks again! |

Hi composer,
not sure if that'll help you since I don't own BFD, but I own JS, DFHS and C&V.
JS is constantly getting better and better, the included and additional sounds are in fact very good (check out the demo and free Pak). It's worth the time to play a bit with the controls in the mapping page and to use individual outs.
JS works 100% fine triggering DFHS and C&V with the native Toontrack mapping as well as the GM mapping, it can trigger any GM mapped sound module (Battery, DR 008, ...) and you can construct your own mappings very easily.
To my ears DFHS and C&V in combination deliver some of the best drum samples I ever heard and are my first choice (don't kill me now, Ralph !) if I got the time to work on the sounds a bit.
I personally almost never end up with a pure DFHS or a pure C&V kit, they compliment each other very well and can be mixed and matched at will.
Awesome cymbals, since you asked.
For quicker jobs however I prefer using JS's sounds, and quite often I like the results so much I simply keep them. They are a lot easier to handle, too. Each of the new sound Paks shifts the balance a bit in favour of JS ...
And the real beauty of JS is in the intelligent humanizing features and the jam stuff, would be worth the price alone even without the sounds.
Only some very subjective opinions,
Cheers, Rhino
PS: I don't use JS as host for the other modules but trigger them externally. |

Hi composer, I also have BFD (which doesn't answer your question - apologies) but with all the add-on packs for Jamstix, I find I'm spoilt for choice. I've realised that, lately, I'm doing everything with Jamstix internal sounds without feeling to need to use anything else.
Rayzoon have given us a compelling arguement for saving money to spend on Jambace and Jamstix 2 in due course . . . _________________ Core 2 E6600, 2GB RAM, 2x320 SATA II HD

I have both BFD (basic version), DFHS and C&V. To me DFHS with C&V sounds better than BFD, but perhaps some of the BFD add-ons would be as good.
BFD sounds very realistic, but the drums were not the ones I liked most. BFD also is not very good when it comes to percussion instruments. DFHS has that. So when I could get the two bundled at 60% of normal price I went for that. Particularly, because the online demos sounded more like what I wanted than the BFD extensions. Could be a matter of recording, though.
As to working with Jamstix I have only tried BFD so far ... I have far too many things to do ... But I don't see why DFHS shouldn't be fine. Actually more of Zauni's demo were made with DFHS so I had a vague suspicion that he preferred this over BFD. That said, the BFD interface is a lot easier to learn, though I have not had as much trouble with Superior as I feared I would have from posts in various forums. |

Hi!
I just replied to a similar post here...well, maybe a little different
I own DFHS and DFHS C&V. I love them both. I also own Jamstix. All three get along VERY well, and are an incredible combo IMO.
I debated BFD and DFHS initially...and the determining factor was this:
The Toontrack forums for DFHS/C&V have a user demo section. There are enough demos of many different types of music from users (NOT paid employees or composers) to take you a few days to play them all. Additionally, if someone listens and wonders how the person recorded everything and asks, the person will respond with info for them!
DFHS has drum kits, percussion, and a cocktail kit. 35G+ library! Wood, plastic and felt beaters for some of the kiks. Drumstick, brush and felt mallet hits for many of the drums. Far from a "one trick pony" IMO. Quite the opposite- very versatile! C&V (Custom and Vintage) is solely drumkits. Another 35G+ of them tho!
As I said- combined with Jamstix, it is almost like having a drummer with an outrageous selections of drums/percussion, that will come up with cool drum parts for you while you jam. Or, pick a style and jam out...just like back in high school when you couldnt wait to hit the drummers house to just hang and jam for hours. Cooler thing is tho- once you finish jamming, or at any point- simply export the jam as a midi file, and you now have the whole jam sitting there for you to pick the parts you actually really liked, and start building that song born from the inspiration.
Too cool...

One thing I need to add is that BFD is constantly updated with fixes for bugs and incompatibilities. I deeply respect the company for doing that.
Toontrack leaves a lot more to the users, for instance there is no drummap combining drummer and percussionist to be compatible with the full GM drum map. The current "GM extented" in DFHS will sound crazy if you play a midi file with shakers and things. Toontrack just suggested I make my own drummap, even though they have the sounds to cover all of GM drums, including tambourines and shakers. FXpansion as a contrast has even made a conversion program so you can use DFHS instruments with BFD.
Still, I prefer the drums in DFHS/C&V, but that could be a matter of taste only. |

Can somebody please explain what The Drum Kit From Hell etc are? Can these be bought from rayzoon? Are they just new drums or preset rythms?
Thanks |

Drumkit From Hell (DFH) is a collection of drum samples available from toontrack (not Rayzoon). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I take it you have to pay for these? (I tried registering, yet the page had an error...)...
Anyway, I think jamstiz seems fine. It's one of the best programs I've played with in a long time!!! Very intuitive and a plethora of sounds and features. |
