Hello there

1st let me tell you how I 'm grateful everyday when I use Jamstix. I love this software. I think I've got all that Ralph has sold on his website (1.5, DP1, DP2, BP, SnarePack). The problem is that I can't use it as its 100% power (especially for live sessions).

I am just disapointed to notice crackles when I use Jamstix into my Cubase SX3 host. Then I would like to get some information about how to optimize it.

I thought it was a problem with my ASIO IEEE 1394 soundcard : I had a sound response of ~5 ms. Then I increased buffers to reduce CPU usage. But that did not eliminate the problem so much. I also use Jamstix with the SAVIHost plugin and my internal sound card (into my laptop) to test how it works. I always notice some crackles.

1. My hardware config is : Dell Laptop, CPU Pentium 4 2.2Ghz, 1 Gb RAM. Is this config too light for a good use of Jamstix ?

2. I'm interrested in some tips to get rid of these crackles and clicks. Does anybody have a list of ways I have to explore ?

Sorry if that question already exists somewhere...

The machine appears too 'light' for a 5ms latency but JS should run fine at 15ms or so. You can also go to the mapping tab and move the 'Voice Reduction' slider to the right, this will greatly reduce CPU usage and especially spiking.

Ok thanks. That's what I expected you to answer Sad
I will try it again with a ~10 ms latency, knowing that it begins to be difficult to play and sing with this delay... I will also try again the Voice Reduction slider, even if sounds seem less realistic.

What config for a 5 ms latency ?

A basic project with a few VSTi and effects on a 2.2GHZ P4 is likely to require a latency of 15ms. This is all ballpark of course. Depends on specific system config, the VSTis used etc.

Here's something to remember when it comes to latency:

If you are in a room singing with a guy who plays guitar and the amp is 6m (18 feet) away from you, then the sound takes 18ms to travel through the air from the speaker to your ear!

Furthermore, let's say you are singing without an amp. This now means that as far as the guitar player is concerned you (the singer) appear to have a latency of 36ms (2x18ms sound traveling back and forth)!

... and when you're in front of a floor speaker for monitoring ? and with headphones ?

Ok Ralph thanks for all. You are always right Wink
I'm just very sensitive with sounds (that's why I choose JS) and delays.
I will try some new tests.
