ok, i'm sorry to ask a question about jamstix that compares it to groove agent, but groove agent has one *really* nice snare on of its internal kits that it uses for the 70s funk rhythms.

it's deep, thick, a little dirty and full of thwack and i'd really like to recreate a similar sound in jamstix. (up until now, i've been routing the js midi through groove agent just for that snare).

for anyone who has groove agent and knows the snare i mean and has the technical know how, any clues on how i can replicate it on one of jamstix' internal sounds? i'm imagining a combination of compression, gated reverb (maybe??) and lowering the pitch would probaby get me there, but i've tried sliding values around instinctively but just haven't even come close.

(of course i could continue using the groove agent sound via midi, but of course it's so nice to keep it internal particular when js can do all those x-sample things, and ghost strokes etc. so nicely...........)

Hold out a few more weeks until the SnarePak is released. It has several snares that are better suited for 70s-style snare sounds, like a 14x7 Tama Rockstar and a 14x6.5 Gretsch Rock.

btw, do you have any pointers for eq'ing snares?

I recommend slight shelving. For example: 70s snares had more bottom-end and less high-end than today's snares. So I'd boost the low shelf and cut the high shelf a bit. Many 70's snares were also muffled a lot and quite dry. I would reduce sustain in the mapping tab and use low ambience or even close stereo samples to get there.

What kind of snare is a Rocksnare? Is that the brand or a just a name you've given it?

You can get some pretty 70's funk-type drums in Jamstix if you just tweak it around a little. Try turning the release on the snare way down and try to "muffle" the sound as best as possible and then add some reverb to it. That's what they did in the 70's. You get that sweet boxy sound. Smile
