Well, I just ordered Jamstix finally. I was pretty excited, until I got to the Share-It order, which to my surprise, had my credit card information stored. I don't remember giving Share-It permission to keep my credit card information, so that really shocked me. I may have used a relatively weak password on that site, and regardless of my own security effort, how much do I trust Share-It? (Share-It never asked ME if I trust them that much.)
Anyway i know it's not Razoon's problem, and I want to be very excited about buying Jamstix, but my blood pressure is going to have to go down first after that experience. |

ShareIt has a good reputation. Your CC liability is $50 and, if your bank is anything like mine, they get very excited whenever a charge is off your average card usage and deny it and call you up. Most CC merchants dig dip whenever a shipping address is different than the billing address. I wouldn't worry.
I'd be more concerned with any 'murky' restaurants where you give the waiter your card and he disappears with it for several minutes... _________________ Ralph Zeuner

That happened to a friend of mine in Barcelona. They cleared out his bank account to the point where he was overdrawn. It was really embarrassing for me, since he'd given me his card details to a make an internet purchase on his behalf and it looked, for all the world, like it was me that had ripped him off. It took about three weeks before the truth was revealed.
[Note] Banks in Spain work differently to most other places, if someone asks them for money - in this case the CC company, to cover the cost of the purchases made on the fake card - they just pay it, without reference to the account holder. The first the latter knows about the payments is when they receive their monthly bank statement. For this reason, those of us who are savvy, check their accounts online, on a daily basis. |

Couldn't agree more. I always find it amusing when friends express concern about my ordering software on the internet. People don't even think twice about letting a waiter take a CC into a back room that may very well have a card duplicator! Or leaving the carbon copy of a CC receipt in a department store waste basket.
Silly humans! |

Are you sure that the problem isn't with your browser having 'auto-completion turned on?
That happened to me once-scared the hell out of me! |

Yes, I'm sure. I logged into Share-It and saw that I had essentially protected a $100,000 credit line with a weak password. Share-It went as far as to present the card number with "xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-####" to prevent screen snooping, but that does not comfort me at all.
As for the café waiter analogy, I understand that, but I also know from experience it is not all that easy to deal with a bank when someone has used your card without consent. If you do a huge volume of business you might not even notice charges before it is too late. On-line fraud is a much bigger risk than "café waiter" fraud. The former happens quite often, the latter, quite rarely. There's another distinction as well. Whereas the waiter or clerk *might* be saving my credit card numbers, I *know* this online merchant *is* saving them. Perceived, hypothetical risk versus real, demonstrated risk.
Share-it supposedly has comment feedback on the site, but it's just a silly, "pick your topic and receive an automated email". There's no obvious way for me to ask them to delete my information from their system and then tell me in writing that it was done, which is what I'm after. |

How do you know what my credit card liability is, and how does that solve my problem? I've got a merchant that has information stored on their system, that I can't find a way to ask them to delete it. That's the solution to my problem, not to dismiss it by saying it is "not" a problem, or by saying there are bigger risks elsewhere. That's ridiculous. |

I'm sorry if I offended you. Here is a ShareIt phone number that you can use to talk to someone about clearing your CC number out of their system:

James-neither Zauni nor I caused your problem, so please don't get irritated at us . Contact Share-It to solve your problem.
Millions of online credit card transactions are processed daily.
If you are really that worried about your credit card being abused, either check your CC daily or else simply don't use it.
Good Luck.
Peace. |
