| I bought and installed Jamstix 1.42 today, and left it in Free Jam mode for quite a few hours, stopped most of the time, but playing around with it whenever I had a free minute, using a couple of other soft synths (Nubi LE and Spectra, if you must know) in Sonar 5, using DirectiXer. After a while, I started getting CPU underrun noise while playing, and seeing big spikes on the Sonar CPU indicator, which got worse and worse. I removed the other soft synths one at a time from the project, and when only Jamstix was left, I was still getting insane surges, particularly when pounding the MIDI keyboard. I restarted the same project and the problems was gone. Has anyone else seen this? |

That's odd. Can you give some specs? (CPU,ASIO,RAM,Latency,Sample Freq etc.) _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Opteron 146 (2GHz) CPU w. 1GB RAM, RME HDSP 9632 audio card with 2.94 ASIO drivers, 6ms latency, 44.1KHz sample rate.
And I've reproduced the problem again this evening - I left a project up with Jamstix in Free Jam mode, but not actually playing, for 6-8 hours, and started seeing spikes in the project. I removed all other VSTs but JamStix, and when it's not running, I'm at a 5-6% load. If I make it play, it shows an 11-20% load, but leaps into overload (Sonar "CPU Warning") every few seconds. Not all of the warnings result in an audible artifact, however.
I exited Sonar and re-loaded the project, and the spikes are gone again. |

Which version of Sonar 5 is this with?
Please move the voice reduction slider to position 15 and see if it makes a difference.
Also, next time you get the spikes let it sit 1 to 2 minutes, close Sonar and immediately send me the rzdlog.txt file from the Jamstix folder so I can research debug info.
Thanks! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| The two observed failures were running Sonar 5.0.0 - I hadn't yet installed the 5.0.1 patch on my test system. I did that last night, and am repeating the experiment. As it happens "Allow Reduction" has been enabled on the Jam control panel, but none of the Reduction modes has been enabled. If I get it again, I'll try and get you the log - how can I send it to you, by the way? |

'Allow Reduction' actually has nothing to do with voice reduction, it is a mechanism to reduce kick and snare during low volume sections.
I'd like for you to move the Voice Reduction slider in the mapping tab to about the middle position. This should definitely reduce or eliminate spiking.

Please email to support at rayzoon.com and reference as 'CPU Spiking'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Oh, *that* Reduction slider! It's already down at about 30% above Min. |

The next beta will reduce task manager CPU usage (not audio thread usage) of the Jamstix interface by reducing the interface redraw frequency. This will also help with spiking. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
