I purchased and installed JamStix today. I have been trying to get it to run in Sonar 4 PE. I can't get it to produce any audio output. (I've also tried it in Chainer with the same results.)

I am using DirectiXer. I have an audio track running in Sonar with audioM8 loaded. AudioM8 is receiving output just fine. I loaded JamStix in the Synth Rack. JamStix loads just fine and I can see the GUI. I set the switch to Jam With Audio and then hit Play in Sonar. The JamStix GUI seems to be active, but it produces no audio output to Sonar.

The About tab in JamStix shows that it is registered to me. The installation removed the license file from the installation directory, so I assume the registration is fine.

I have JamStix installed on my D drive and the JamStix data is installed on my G drive.

I've followed the instructions in the manual, watched the videos and tried everything I can think of; but, I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Well, let's sort this out.

The data installer has a warning that you must install it into the same location as the plugin. This is probably what causes the silence since Jamstix can't find its samples. You can confirm that by going to the mapping tab and looking at the sample box for any sound. If it says 'No Sound' then that's the problem.

Here's the fix:

Move all Jamstix folders that are in the same location as the jamstix.dll to the second location where your 'samples' folder is. Next time you load Jamstix in Sonar it should complain that it can't find its data and give you a selection box where you select the folder that the 'samples' folder is in (not the 'samples' folder itself!)

Jamstix should now be happy and produce sound.

If not, let me know!

Thanks for the tips.

I followed your instructions. I think JamStix is finding the data now -- at least it shows many dialogs with data-loading messages when I create an instance of JamStix.

Unfortunately, I still get no audio output from JamStix. The Sonar audio track linked to JamStix shows no output on its meters and none of the meters on JamStix's Output tab show anything either.

BTW, my D drive is fairly small, so I only load programs on it. My G drive is very large, so I try to load all data on it. Most programs that have large data content associated with them allow the data to be loaded on a second drive. I guess I had assumed that JamStix was designed this way (which is very helpful to me) because the program and data have different installers, each of which lets you specify the preferred directory.

Okay, do you see 'No Sound' as the sample names in the mappings tab?

No, the Sample name seems to be "Chimes Fast" (if I'm looking at the correct control -- the dropdown box at the bottom of the Mapping control section).

Okay, next thing is this:

- new project in Sonar
- insert Jamstix into the Sonar rack
- go to the jam tab in Jamstix and click 'Free Jam'
- arm a track and hit record so Sonar is running

You should now hear drums.

Some progress. Restarted Sonar, loaded JamStix, clicked on Free Jam, clicked on Record.

I got two snare hits at the beginning of measure one and then silence until measure fifteen where I got one tom hit.
