OK,
Haven't gotten the demo downloaded (newbie here)
I have DM5, a Motif Rack ES, and a DR-880. The drum sounds are OK, Very Good, Real Good, in that order.
So I want to use those sounds (maybe sell the DM5)
1) I want to know, can the Jamstix program send out MIDI data that will control those boxes of drum sounds.
2) Can I in turn port in via MIDI from my Yamaha Clavinova.
Or am I missing something? This program only works as a VST plug-in, yes? Requiring say Ntracks or Cubase SX or something?
I have a Yamaha AW16G, so I'm looking to go Keyboard to computer to Jamstix to trigger/play and create a MIDI map. THEN port that map via Jamstix to a drum box (Motif Rack ES) which then ports its sound to the AW16G.
What am I missing in this chain?
Thank you immeasurably for you help.

Depends on the host. Jamstix does send MIDI output but not every host allows you to route that to other VSTi (DR-008) or hardware MIDI outputs (to Motif).

Yes.

Yes, a VSTi host is required.

I'm not sure what you mean with MIDI map here. Depending on your host you can have Jamstix play the Motif directly via MIDI output. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

So this is my understanding.
While Jamstix CAN create a drum pattern/song, it's real intent is to make a pattern/song REALISTIC, yes?
Given that, what is considered a very smooth program for CREATING drum patterns/songs, that then can be ported to Jamstix for realistic touches, if I have the picture right?
Thanks again! |

No, Jamstix is designed to create the patterns without any help. It can create rhythms on-the-fly during free jam or it can be used in keyword jam to dynamically utilize library patterns based on key words or it can be used in manual mode where you can create your own patterns from scratch or select and edit library patterns. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

So,
Is the freejam part of it where you "play" your kicks and snares and it records them, but quantizes them a bit?
I don't think I'd be smart enought to create patterns from a grid. I'd like to be able to "tap" out some basic parts, snap them to a grid (quantize), and then "jazz" it up.
Then export it to something that has real sounding drums (external hardware)
I have Cubase SX, but don't know how to work it well yet. I've gotten Jamstix set up as a VST plugin, but I've nothing to play, and hear no sounds as of yet. (started late last night, need more time is all)
Appreciate the help. I'm looking for something that makes creating drum patters EASIER than doing it in the menu-driven hardware alone. |

No, free jam is where you let Jamstix come up with its own patterns all by itself. Try this out as follows:
- create new Cubase project
- add Jamstix
- click 'Free Jam' in Jamstix
- click Play in Cubase
After a few beats Jamstix will start playing drums. Experiment with changing the patterns by altering the sliders and boxes in the jam tab.

Yes, can be done in Jamstix. Use 'Manual Jam', go to the rhythm tab, hit 'Reset', let Cubase play and use either the Cubase metronome or the Jamstix metronome for timing reference. Now hit 'Learn' in Jamstix and play the kick and snare on your keyboard (GM layout). Jamstix will pick it up and start playing it. You can then 'jazz' it up with the rhythm tab controls.

Just add a MIDI track to Cubase with input=Jamstix and output=port to external synth. (Limited to bars 1 through 4 in the Jamstix demo) _________________ Ralph Zeuner
