I'm extremely excited about this product. I have been looking for a product that will produce realistic drum sounds for a long, long time. Still, I'm not clear on what I'll need to make this work.

First, what software will be supported? I know that it works with Sonar, but what about Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0?

Second, I was wondering if you can tell me what hardware would be required - I'm specifically interested in recording something similar to your guitar demo, so I'm assuming that I will need a guitar with a MIDI pickup installed and a sound card to accept MIDI input. Is that all I will need?

Is there a noticeable lag when recording with a guitar? If I recorded an audio signal (perhaps a miced guitar cab) while playing along with a live jam, would the tracks sync up?

Finally (and I'm pretty sure this is possible but I wanted to confirm), since JamStix records to MIDI, can the MIDI sequence be converted to a Wave stream after the jam is completed?

Sorry for so many questions...

We have only tested Jamstix internally with Sonar 4, Cubase SX and Orion. Once the demo version is out you can test it with any sequencer you have in your inventory. It should run in Pro Audio 9.0 but you cannot route MIDI to multiple tracks as you can in Sonar 3 and 4.

You don't need a MIDI converter to do what we did in the audio demos. All Jamstix does there is react to the velocity of the audio input. That automatically leads to things like switch to snare sidestick on quiet passages and switch to ride during loud sections.

The issue for you is to route audio to Jamstix, which you can do in Sonar 4, but probably not in Pro Audio 9.

(I don't mean to pitch for Sonar here but I went through the whole lot ever since Cakewalk 3.0 and Sonar 4 is just lightyears ahead of Pro Audio 9)

There is no lag. Also, if you record your jam and then play it back, Jamstix repeats the jam in MIDI (not audio) so it will always sync.

In Sonar you simply bounce or freeze the track. (Freezing synths and tracks alone makes Sonar 4 worth the upgrade price but I digress ...)

I might be missing something here, but would it be possible for me to then record my guitar as a WAV file and have JamStix jam on the recording? Or would I still be faced with PA's limited routing options?

I'm not familar with the specifics on PA9 anymore but you'd need a way to route audio to a VSTi.
