How are all the sounds in Jamstix? Good? Cheesy?

I agree with you that the Jamstix site samples are not nearly as good as the samples at DFH or BFD. However, in actual use of the program live on my computer, I get way better sounds out of Jamstix + addons than I get from Jamstix + DFH. It's kind of like listening to sound samples of an amp or guitar, it doesn't really represent anything like what those things will sound like when YOU personally play them. And I'm even using it to record styles of music that would stereotypically sound great with DFH.

Good point, and as I think said already that the drum sound in need at any given time, on a per tune basis may or may nor require or even desire the open, lush, full sounds of BFD or DFHS, but more of a closed, tight sound of Jamstix.
Then there's of course the fact as you say that I'm listening to mp3 examples, and not in the context of my own music.

I don't get this impression, but just for the rcord, I'm not trying to belittle this interesting product, just researching & evaluating for my own particular needs...of using software samples with my edrums.
That said, I'm not sure that it's the most appropriate for those needs, though having Jamstix for it's other capabilities that were not neccessarilly my original intention/needs may be an option...especially at this price Wink

Yes, Jamstix is primarily a drum arrangement and jamming tool and its audio engine was originally more of a secondary function that, after the release, moved into focus as we found many more people using the internal sounds than we expected. This is also why we never bothered with e-Drum support in the original Jamstix concept.

Though there's no 'Be-All-Everything' program for everyone, products can certainly evolve as the needs grow, and I DO hope to see Jamstix evolve. The sounds of BFD & DFHS may be a hard act to follow, and possibly an expensive act at that. Though a multi-mic'd drum sampled kit may be the most flexible as those two, this doesn't mean that minimal mic'd drum samples can't be just a good.
As Mr Spock say's "The Needs Of The Many, Outweigh The Needs Of The Few" Laughing

What I find a little bit of a turn off, in general with various programs, is to have to use several programs at once to achieve a single task. But at the same time, it IS good to have a program that CAN be used with other programs, and possibly a must have!
At least Jamstix DOES offer an audio engine & drum sample packs which are certainly decent & useable giving users nearly an all-in-one solution.

I most definately would be interested in continued drum sample expansion packs, and/or the ability for Jamstix to load 3rd party multi-velocity drum samples straight into Jamstix, rather than having to used programs along side....Or CAN 3rd party, multi-velocity drum samples BE loaded already? ...Like for instance how FXPansions' DR-008 can load in DFH-1 samples & LM-4 samples? Or is this a feature to think about in future updates or incarnations?

I do look forward to the program to be able acommodate full e-drum support next year as you've said Rayzoon is at 'least' considering these features. I believe that Jamstix can already be controlled or played from a keyboard and IT's capabilities, but somewhat limited in all the capabilities of an e-drum with regard to Cymbal Choking & Hi-Hat articulation.

I've read the product descriptions , and that Rayzoon aim is to provide a great product, packed with features, and at an 'affordable' price. This, you have done, and done well. There is quite a buzz going on about Jamstix, and this is how I even know about it, through word of mouth buzz.

Custom sample loading is not supported in Jamstix today. We've tried to make integration very easy by implementing the subhost function in Jamstix so you can load a sample player VSTi (i.e. sfz) straight into Jamstix and save it as a mapping so it becomes a 'one-click integration'.

Ah, I think I see... Custom loading samples vs intergration of another program with it's own samples, or capable of loading samples on their own, then 'hosted' by Jamstix, achieving a similar end result. That makes sence.

Ok, so Jamstix is not trying to be the end all-in-one drum program, but instead concentrating on the strong & unique points of it's own, with intergration of other programs being a close 2nd. I suppose that's what is the selling point is, that's cool..As far as I know, there is no other program quite like this...The closest I can even 'think' of is Groove Agent, which of course is not that close.
Having the Jam Along function in Jamtix does seem the easiest way to lay down a rhythm track, except I suppose if you play edrums Wink

Thank you Ralph.
