For me this is exactly what I need:
I have two PCs for making music, one is powerful DAW in the studio and other is my laptop for the road. Sometimes my laptop is overwhelmed with all the plugs (almost all the time) and this would certainly help. Some would say freeze it, yes I'm doing it but if I need to change a single snare or crassh.... unfreezing and ..... well I hate freezing but what can I do. This would certainly help.

If you ask me this is good idea Ralph....

Very Happy

One caveat though: the player only plays back MIDI so it will not vary velocities, use note probabilities or add accents. In other words: sterile MIDI tracks will still be sterile with the JS player versus importing them as patterns into JS and making them 'come alive'.

I see the comments and I just don't get it. If you take out the brain all you end up with is a sample player. You can get those for free. I guess if your using this as a method to keep your excellent drum sounds proprietary I can see it. I am assuming however that things like the arranger would not be part of the functionality... yes? no?

Ralph,
I voted no only because I agree with the post that your program is already affordable and a bargin. Not only that, but it's a great performer.
I would rather see the effort spent on more drum paks. The latin percussion will be great.

Exactly, it would be a cheap way to play DrumPak sounds. No arranger.

imho Jamstix owners may not be the best test audience for this question - I (like many I suspect) was drawn because of the arranger not the samples (great though they are Wink ) - you'd need to ask the knd of customer that buys samples. Maybe 'pimp' some example mp3s of the kits elsewhere and see if people would be interested Question

Good point timmyo.

What I love about Jamstix is that if I didn't have Jamstix there is NO other piece of softaware that could do what Jamstix does for me .... at any price.

There are tons of other multi-trackers. audio editors, reverb plugs, compressors, etc.etc. that if I didn't have the ones I use I could find another that could do the same thing (maybe with a different learning curve/workflow and different price).

I already have quite a lot of drum samples from my pre Jamstix days and there are a ton of drum sample players out there.

I guess your sample player would only really appeal to people that don't want to use Jamstix to create, but only for it's samples and you would then be ina completely different market.
Your cheap price point would probably be your differnetiator then rather than the fact that Jamstix can do things no other application/plugin can currently.

I think everyone would benefit from the player at one point in time. Ralph, you're amazing with your ideas. I have gained the utmost respect for you, your support and your product. I hope Sweetwater places it in their catalog. I will get with my Sales Engineer and get periodic updates on the status and will definitely keep pushing it with them. You deserve the best since you are the best and Sweetwater is another best and you both deserve each other, that's for sure.

Yup, I like the idea. I really enjoy jamming with JS but it would sometimes be handy to have a "lite" play-only version.

I would rather like to see Jam Base to be released first (just in case the development of a JamStix player would have any impact on the release date of Jam Base)... Smile

On the other hand the idea might be good, though. I don't think I would use it often but it may be helpful for other users.

Regards,
Sven

I believe not many people are willing to pay for a pure Jamstix Player, me too.

My vote goes to a freeware Jamstix Player with a small Sample Pack included!

With such a gift - old Jamstix user are happy and you can get more NEW user to buy optional Drum Packs & other products from you.

Jam Bass comes first, don't worry.

Well, the player would be like any other drum module so it isn't a 'lite' Jamstix. Instead it appeals to a different kind of user who explicitly doesn't want Jamstix but would like to use the Jamstix sounds.

The Player+Paks would be a cost-efficient alternative to other mid to high-range modules out there.

I voted yes, simply because anything you could offer to existing JS owners & alternative buyers would be a good idea.

I only just bought JS as the Jamboree Pack, and have no experience with the JS program beyond playing with the DEMO.
So at this time it's hard to say just how much I'll be using JS, or this Sample Player.

I can say that for my purposes, I plan to use JS at least as a tool to start my song projects with, it's such a unique program & cost effective that I had to buy it. But offering a low cost sampler/player can only be a good thing. How much I would use it, I can't say yet.

Since I have an extented full edrum Yamaha DTXpress kit in my home studio, I mostly plan to play my edrums for the final drum track. This may also mean using Jamstix for it's sounds with my midi recorded drums into Cubase.

I've been toying with FXpansions DR-008 drum sampler/player, and I had decided I would use that along side my edrums to replace my DTXpress' sounds with various multi-velocity single hit drum & cymbal samples.
The DR-008 is capable of loading in multi-velocity drum & cymbal sounds, but will this new Rayzoon drum sampler/player be able to load in multi-velocity samples? Additionally, will this sampler/player be able to load in outside samples 'other' than Rayzoon's own Jamstix sounds?

I think for me to be inclined to use this proposed sampler/player, to be able to load in various multi-velocity samples in different sample formats from outside samples in addition to JS's drum sample packs is a MUST have.

Also, will this new sampler/player be designed with edrummers in mind, especially regarding say, cymbal chokes & Hi-Hat control?
Personally, I'd like to see Jamstix evolve to allow better edrum support, and also be able to load outside drum samples straight into Jamstix without the need for an additional sampler/player...But then if this sampler/player was to meet all my demands...?

Smile

Planned for Jamstix 2.
