|
|
Looking for some help here...
What I'm trying to do is, as I play the guitar in "Free Jam", is there any way to record the drums only without getting the audio recorded from the guitar that I'm playing? What I'm looking at doing is getting the bass drum on 1 track, snare on another, etc.... All this as I'm playing the guitar but not having the guitar recorded at the same time. This way when I'm done, I'll simply hear the drum track laid down across multiple tracks and can then go in and add bass, keys and guitar and vocals...
I know there are lots of experienced people on this forum, can anyone assist me here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ Pentium Dual Core 3.2GHz

Try doing midi out only from Jamstix to a midi track, then you can easily separate each kit piece onto it's own midi channel.
Or for recrding the audio of the drums from jamstix, make sure you've set the correct amount of outputs for each kit piece, and Sonar will automatically create the set amount of tracks for you. All the drums will then be recorded as separates to those.

andrewwright67, I've been messing around with Jamstix but doesn't seem to be doing that. Can you provide, I guess steps in what I should do so I can understand a little better? Will Jamstix still play even with Midi Output only as I'm playing guitar? I know practice makes perfect and playing with jamstix, I'll get more used to what it can do but given the hours I work, days and nights, getting right to it would be great.
I wish I had a lot more time on my hands... _________________ Pentium Dual Core 3.2GHz

Are u using the jamstix internal sounds or BFD as an external drum module?

This may seem like a silly suggestion, but why not erase the guitar part after you record w/Jamstix? Or am I missing something? |

I can't erase what's recording on the same audio track. I'm just using the Jamstix drums, haven't started with bfd yet. i want to record the drums that Jamstix does onto separate tracks and then add audio onto other tracks. _________________ Pentium Dual Core 3.2GHz

In Sonar, I would split the mapping so bass and snare go to separate outputs etc.. I would then add dummy MIDI events to the start and end of the Jamstix MIDI track and develop my song. I actually keep this up until mixdown because there is no need to get audio tracks from JS for me. However, if you absolutely must have them or have to reduce CPU usage, I would then freeze Jamstix, which will give you audio clips for all outputs. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I'm not sure I know how to split the mapping to separate outs to add dummy midi events to the start and end of the song. I don't have CPU usage issues that's for sure. _________________ Pentium Dual Core 3.2GHz

Go to the mapping tab and select 'Snare' then use the output slider to direct it to Output 2 and so forth with other sounds as needed. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Got an error w/ Sonar 5PE.
FIE update UI update error (Access Violation at address 08A07D9B in module 'jamstix.dll'.) Read of address 00000004. Had simular type errors with Pro Tools 7. Any ideas?
Also. I was able to record Jamstix to a separate track and I wasn't even playing guitar. It just played out. Not what I was intending for it to do since it wasn't following any kind of music rhythm. _________________ Pentium Dual Core 3.2GHz

We are investigating this but it appears to be benign and only occuring after a load under certain circumstances.

Yes, Jamstix can jam without input just like a human musician can jam by itself. The jam is based on the settings in the jam tab. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

So far these errors I've gotten under Sonar 5PE and Pro Tools 7 but Jamstix doesn't work in PT but at least the wrapper doesn't crash. I'm sure the way you are Ralph, you'll get to the bottom of these errors.
This is cool. I also figured that I can play the song as it should be where the velocity changes and as it starts the drums, I can then go back and record simply the drums without audio and add it later. not sure how the velocity will work but that's no biggie, I can slide the slider slowly where the velocity changes should be. I'll try that. Still haven't gotten to record the audio in one track and jamstix in the other. _________________ Pentium Dual Core 3.2GHz

Don't use the slider, use VST automation in Sonar. Right-click on the Jamstix MIDI track and choose Create Envelope-MIDI-NRPN-Velocity. You can now draw the velocity as needed into the track. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Dieszel,
Try these steps to split the drum sounds in Sonar:
- open new project
- add Jamstix, make sure 'All Synths Output ' is checked in the add synth options dialog.
- you now have 4 audio tracks for the 4 Jamstix outputs.
- go to the mapping tab, select snare and slide the 'Output' slider to 2.
- go to the jam tab and click 'Free Jam'
- mark a track for recording and hit 'Record' in Sonar.
Watch the audio outputs. The snare will appear on the second track while the rest of the drums goes through the first one.
Hope this helps! _________________ Ralph Zeuner
