|
|
Just wanted to share this with you guys: we have implemented a very neat timing logic for the shakers in the Jamstix release: When you play a shaker you get a sound as you move the shaker through the air before the beat. Normally, drum modules can't handle that since they expect you to press the key on the beat and not before.
Since Jamstix is in synch with the host and knows the BPM, we have implemented a neat logic for the shaker that triggers the sample at the right time before the beat based on shaker sample structure and BPM.
Quick Example:http://www.rayzoon.com/percussion.mp3
(The bass stinks and the chimes are too loud and too often. It's just a quick audio-jam example) _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Fantastic!!!
Can this short air sample be added in for use with BFD - I.e. having the air sample play before one of the BFD shakers or tamborines plays?
Cheers

Mixing internal and external sounds is a feature that we won't have until JamStix 2 (there are work-arounds though using MIDI out).
However, there isn't a 'short air' sample per se. The shaker samples are fully executed shakes. Jamstix just knows how many milliseconds the short air part is. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

How would the midi out function work so you had both the short sample fo air, then the BFD shaker playing on the beat?

You can't use the shaker notes from Jamstix with BFD shakers, you'll have to wait for Jamstix 2 for that.
However, you could take a BFD mapping from Jamstix and switch to internal samples, then unload all drum samples, just leaving the percussion samples. This means that the Jamstix audio-out only plays the Jamstix percussion samples while the Jamstix MIDI-out still produces the full event spectrum in BFD layout. Depending on your host, route the MIDI out from Jamstix to the MIDI input of BFD and you're all set. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Cool!!
I don't know how to set Jamstix to BFD's midi in though, as I can only see a midi out channel on BFD's GUI.
or
Do you just mean set it to the same midi channel as what the midi is being played on through BFD already?
I'm working with it in Sonar.
Cheers

This is very easy in Cubase or Tracktion, where you will have Jamstix show up as a MIDI source (like a keyboard) as soon as you plug it in. In Sonar it's a lot more hassle, you need to use DirectiXer, enable the MIDI loopback and then assign the loopback port of DirectiXer as the MIDI input of the BFD MIDI track (BFD must be loaded as a separate VSTi, not in Jamstix) _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sounds quite confusing, so I guess I'll stick with what I have at moment, but this feature sounds very cool.

I've edited the first post and added a quick example MP3. Also, we will release 1.0 already with the percussion update because we've got enough done to let you have fun with it _________________ Ralph Zeuner
