The slippery slope with the rhythm tab is that it can easily become a simple step sequencer. Our goal was to have an editor that is easier to use than a step sequencer and applies basic human drummer concepts. Naturally that means that not all things can be programmed with it.

We are brainstorming various concepts to solve this by allowing you to use the conceptual programming and having it feed into a wide-open pattern programmer. That way you can use the editor conceptually but still have full low-level control on the pattern to implement/add things with little restriction much as a step sequencer.

These are things that we are going through while developing Jamstix 2 so be assured that we are keeping your 'dilemma' in our minds!

Just another note, I went back and noticed the variance slider on the hat works well but the snare I really did not notice much of a velocity difference. Also when using the always ride the program likes to mix in the bell. Thanks for allowing us to provide you feedback on the product. Your program is cool.

It's noticable to me but we may add a range control as an ini option so you can increase the effect as desired.

Yes, the bell is used whenever the velocity is 127. By using a lot of variance you can nice varied bell hits mixed in. If you do not like the bell and you are using the internal sounds, go to the mapping tab and select 'No Sound' for the 'Ride Bell'. Alternatively, you can keep the velocities slightly below max.

Dont know if this has been mentioned before but id realy like to be able to program snare (and maybe kick) hits to 32nd of a beat, not 16ths. I realise this may clutter up the window but being able to chose the current veiw or one with expanded hits could get round this. I try to program some of my patters with my Akai MPD16 and it gets realy frustrating trying to use the mide from that cause the patter isnt 16th notes

Hi Ralph,

I just want to know if there is a metal pack on the plan! Something I quite miss in Jamstix for now.. (the only thing I miss! Smile ) I'd like to see a snare that sounds that punchy as in the DFHS examples on your website. I own all the packs right now, but I can't get them sound like I want.

If this question was raised before, I say sorry in advance.. Smile

A MetalPak is on the roadmap but quite a bit in the future. However, the next expansion pack for Jamstix will be SnarePak with a wide variety of snares, which will likely help you get closer to the sound you need.

Don't quote me on this but SnarePak should become available in Feb 06.

My wishlist:

MetalPack! MetalPack! MetalPack! I need a Metal Pack! Laughing

... and a DrumPack/PercussionPack with octobans and roto toms!!!

or/and

... in the future a PercussionPak or a product like Jam Sticks for Percussion (with bongos, congas, talking drums, exotic percussion...)!

I know Wizoo`s Darbuka & Latigo are a nice, but I`m sure Rayzoon have the power to make a REAL INTERACTIVE PERCUSSIONIST!

It is coming in form of a separate plugin (tentatively called Jamcussion) in 2006.

Hi Ralph,

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this already, but it would be nice to be able to construct 2-bar patterns in the Rhythm window.

A workaround is making two different rhythms and alternate between them, but that's more manual labour... Wink

Thanks,

Wim Cool

When I use Jamstix with its own kits - DP1, DP2 and Brushpak included - I often want to run them as multi-out.

At present assigning all the hat, snare, cymbal or tom samples to separate outs involves selecting them sample by sample (eg open hat, half open, closed, foot).

Workflow would be better if we could work with whole instruments - eg select a particular hat (eg DP2 Hat CS) and have all the subparts routed to the output of your choice in one operation. Similarly with a matching tom set instead of individual toms.

Yes, we're working on that. It isn't easy since we can't clutter up the R tab any further so we're working on advanced tools in the arranger to define bar sequences (much like a Liveloop) and then paste them as needed.
