please forgive me if this has been covered, but i did a search for this topic and couldnt find anything specific...if there are previous threads i am happy to read those, but failing that, the question is can i change the individual drums sounds, eg kick or snare or cymbal etc etc in the program? and create my own unique drum kits? or do i ahve to send midi out to my synth to use the drum sounds on it?

Jamstix does not currently support importing your own drum sounds into the internal engine. You need to use MIDI-Out and some sample player for that.

thankyou ralph..i have tried the free jam after installing the program, after all your help previously !!! .......and i noticed that the kick drum on the various rhythm styles was the same, is there more than one kick in your included samples? i couldn't find any so i assumed there was only one, and ergo the question re importing some.

The rhythms themselves do not specify specific sounds to use. You decide that yourself by loading different mappings or changing specific sounds.

Go to the mapping tab and select 'Kick' in the sound list. You can then specify a different kick sound in the 'sample' list. Jamstix ships with three kick drums. DrumPak #1 adds a fourth drum and the upcoming DrumPak #2 will add another one.

Furthermore, you can change any of those sounds significantly using the sustain and pitch sliders.

thanks ralph, yes i see now that there are a few variations there if i may add one more question...i see i can let jamstix output midi info..i am using sonar and was wondering if i can actually record the midi notes jamstix outputs to a track in sonar? i looked at the manual and the secftion i read just referred to being able to output the midi...i have tried the "standard" ways of recording midi into sonar but i am having no joy with this so far...my apologies if this is a dumb question..

Sonar unfortunately does not support recording the MIDI output of VSTi. If you have DirectiXer, you can use its loopback driver to route the Jamstix MIDI data back into Sonar via the DirectiXer MIDI port. You can then record it in Sonar as you would any other MIDI port.

yes i do have directixer, so i will install that and try as you suggest...any tips you can think of when i do this? particularly in regard to sonar?

Just make sure you have the 'DirectiXer Loopback' in your Sonar MIDI port list. Wrap Jamstix in DX and make sure to select 'Alternate Window Sizing Method' in the DX options for Jamstix (or you won't see the GUI in Sonar). Load JS vis DX into Sonar and depress the button 'Send MIDI events to host' (or so) above the JS GUI in the DX frame. You can then select 'DirectiXer' as the port of a MIDI track for recording.
