I am using the Jamstix demo version with SAVIHost (without virtual 'keyboard' control) , and my problem is that I can't rewind to the beginning of the Arranger to listen to an arrangement.

I am in Manual Jam mode, and I've selected Stop and Rewind in Jamstix, which shows the green cursor at the start. But when I press play again, it plays back from the last bar reached previously.

SAVIHosts seems to have playback and stop controls, but they are greyed out (except record and stop buttons), and I suspect they may be for wav file playback/record only, not for the plugin playback.. can anyone clarify this?

Perhaps I'm having problems because I only have the demo version of Jamstix..?

(I'm using MME drivers - thinking about installing ASIO, not sure if this is relevant anyway).

Click on the BPM display in the SAVIHost toolbar and then click again. This will make SAVIHost rewind to bar 1.

You might also want to try MiniHost since it doesn't send SPP so you can just jump around the bars in the Jamstix arranger as needed.

Minihost doesn't allow audio input though...? I'd like to use audio for jamming. Also does it support MME?

Otherwise are there any other simple host programs? (I find n-track v3.3 a bit crashy with Jamstix).

You're right, MiniHost doesn't allow audio input.

It does support MME, I believe. I do recommend ASIO at any rate. You can always use ASIO4ALL (www.asio4all.com)

Acccording to the website, minihost claims to be able to "process live ASIO audio input or a WAV file" .....hmmm. If it really can't process live audio, then I'm thinking that I could jam in SAVIHost then save the jam and load it into minihost for more editing.

Just a thought - any chance that you might produce a standalone version of Jamstix? It's a great plugin and I'm sure a standalone version would suit a lot of users, me included.

Tobybear has a forum for MiniHost at KvR and is very responsive. I'm sure he can shed some light on the 'live input' issue.

As far as standalone is concerned: there are no plans, yet, but it is a possibility that we will add this option in the future.

Just to say that I have got as far as opening two intances of MiniHost, the first with AudioM8 loaded, and the second with Jamstix loaded. AudioM8 reads my live guitar input, and it in turn is sending sound to Jamstix (in the second MiniHost), which is picking it up - the red light shows, as well as the velocity slider moving.

Only problem is, only one instance of MiniHost can use my soundcard. The other says "not connected 1; not connected 2". How can I allow both instances of MiniHost to use the soundcard?

I'm this close to getting it working! i.e. live audio input AND the ease of use of the Jamstix Arranger in MiniHost.

Any suggestions anyone? I thought Asio allowed many outputs or uses of the audio drivers/soundcard? I may have understood this wrongly...

Not sure who's still reading, but I've kind of given up somewhat with the previous tack.

I've decided to simplify things and just use the jam feature, with JS loaded into SAVIHost. It sounds so good as it is, and it's responding well to my guitar, that I'm happy to record direct from jamming, without getting bogged down with drum arranging. A good tip is to set the minimum velocity to zero, so that merely stopping playing your instrument at the right moment results in a final drum-fill at the end of a tune.

My method of recording will be: I send the JS output to the left channel only (set within JS), and I send my guitar to the right channel only (using the Windows mixer), then send the panned two-track output to an external recorder, where I continue tracking (I prefer the more hands-on apprach of an all-in-one recorder, and I'm having trouble with n-track crashing with JS anyway). After I finish recording other parts, I eventually transfer the individual tracks into n-Track where I edit, mix and master.

A variation is to send the stereo JS output to the recorder (to tracks 1 and 2), and seperately send the guitar to track 3 (by taking another feed from my guitar preamp, separate from the preamp output also going to the PC input, and also muting the soundcard's Line In, otherwise the guitar will get recorded on the drum track).

The original guitar track can be guide track that can be re-recorded if preferred.

Anyway, I will be buying the full Jamstix + birch kit soon - a great plugin (who needs a real drummer?!).
