In sonor I set up labels for all my tracks, intro, verse 1, build, chorus, outro etc...

Would there be any way to add functioanlity to jamstix to read these labels and respond to them (in addition to the audi/midi). If there was a standard set of keywords built into jamstix which we could write in our projects ( verse1, build, chorus, intro, free jam, hectic, transition etc...) then by writing those in the labels AND using audio or midi input we could get a really live performance factor...

Its like letting the drummer groove over the track based on what he thinks is appropriate (from listening to the audio or midi already in place), and then sitting down with him and pointing out that he should add a "build" before the chorus, or an "outro" after the last chorus.

Just an idea. This would mimic the way I work with drummers now....a little direction given to an awesome drummer gives fantastic results.

Unfortunately, Jamstix is limited to the VSTi interface, which does not allow for that kind of information exchange and even if it did, Sonar would not write its label information to that interface.

It's a great idea, though.

Building on that idea, any way to input bars for that type of thing?

Verse bars 1-4
Pre chorus 5-6
Chrous 7-10
Bridge, etc etc

We have some ideas along that line for the 2.0 version. We'll keep you in the loop as we get closer to that.

Thanks for your suggestions. Keep 'em coming Smile

cool. I guess it would make sense with a couple of presets,

or even better a wizard type thing ...It could ask questions, is there an Intro? y/n then how many bars if yes, then same thing for verse, chorus

then getting crazier would be great if there is a way to mess with the tempo from the plugin. (not sure if a VSTi can change the hosts tempo) This would be cool to increase the tempo slightly for a chorus or what not.
Would also be useful to have a half time option for these song parts.

Now I am getting greedy!

Thanks

gmon..are you going to use the way i am? basically by going bar by bar in the arranger and mapping out the parts that way?

That's actually how I do most of my songs. I use free jam and keyword jam to develop song ideas. With the former I save rhythms Jamstix comes up with that I like (sorry can't do that in the demo) and with the latter I just write down what rhythms work well with the particular song.

When I actually start building the song in the sequencer, I do it all manually in the arranger. Goes right quick once you get used to it. I also found that I hand-edit some bars for special alignment with things happening in the song. That's where the simplicity of the rhythm editor comes in handy.

I also use MIDI automation a lot and draw velocity envelopes etc.

yeah thats the way I think I am going to be using it. Planning out parts, using arranger and then export to MIDI. Though I do think an intellgent arranger (wizard) with small fills between verse, bridge, chorus, etc would be cool. Plus half time option would be killer.

Zauni, any chance you could put together a little tutorial with how you do it and tips for using MIDI velocity curves? That would be cool to have.

I will be in vegas next week when for the release ... gonna have to wait .. How sick I am I, I would rather be jamming!

Once the release is out we'll hopefully be able to focus some more on manuals & tutorials.

Have fun in Vegas!
