I am working on a rythm (Memphis by Lonnie Mack). I want the snare to play on 2 and the tom to play the "snare" part on 4. Jamstix thinks the drummer is using his hihat arm to play the tom, so I loose the hihat on 4. In actuality, the drummer should use his snare arm, and keep the hihat going.

Any thoughts?

Here's why that happens:

The quarter hihat notes are played by the right hand only. We could fix the issue by giving these events the left hand as an alternate limb. But this would give Jamstix too much flexibility and we'd hear the hihat too often. Real drummers often drop a right-hand hihat note even if they could reach it with the left hand.

When you assign the tom on the 4, Jamstix decides on the tom before the hihat. Since the preferred limb is the right hand and that limb is free at that time, the tom hit is assigned to the right hand. When the brain gets to the hihat, the right hand is busy with the tom and the note is dropped.

We will fix this in the upcoming Jamstix 1.4 by deciding hihat notes before tom notes. That way the hihat will be assigned to the right hand and when it gets to the toms, which have the left hand alternate assigned, the left hand will be used.

Wow...

The more I learn about this sweet little program the more impressed and amazed I become. You should be proud of your accomplishment here.

I don't know if it is doing what you want. Now it will play all three (snare, hihat, and tom) at the same time. It seems like two should be the limit.
