i have a compaq laptop running on AMD 64 3200, WinXP 1 gig ram using yamaha USB midi driver...i have installed jamstix and cannot get any midi activity light showing or any audio output (Conexant AMC auddio) ...i followed the instructions in the manual for Sonar (i actually have Sonar Home Studio 4) to no avail.....the midi interface works fine as i have tested it with other midi files....the vst adaptor i am using came with SHS 4 (which btw is the latest version released about 3 months ago).....any help appreciated as i want to use the laptop and jamstix in live situations (which is why i bought it) i have had it working on my PC using the EMU 1820 audio/midi interface..
thanks
dennis

Let's check the audio:

Go to the mapping tab and open the 'sample' listbox. Does it have a lot of entries or only one entry 'No Sound'?

Let's do these steps:

- open HS4 and load Jamstix
- click 'Free Jam' in jam tab
- arm a track in HS4 for recording and hit Record

HS4 and Jamstix beat counters should advance together and after a few beats the drums should play with the little green LED in the right-bottom corner of Jamstix lighting up.

hi ralph, just on a hunch, i also went back into audio options, and found the "playback timing master" was greyed out, so i re-inserted the laptop soundcard (conexant) restarted sonar, inserted jamstix, and now we have some action happening...still no midi, but audio AT LAST!!!!!

Let's identify the issue more precisely.

Can you load a VSTi and then produce sound from it by playing on your MIDI keyboard?

Is this what doesn't work with Jamstix?

hi ralph, yes, but when i load jamstix the little yellow light is not indicating any midi activity...i tried the setup as per the manual section dealing with midi jamming..but nothing happens..the audio is now fine but i wnat to try and jam using the midi in rather than audio if possible....its prob something really simple, and i am being dumb, but i just cannot see it...i ahve tried setting up the midi trax in sonar for playing a soft synth..still nothing..
its late wher you are, but only 4.30 pm here so i will leave it until tomorrow morning (our time) and try again...
thanks m8

So if you add Jamstix and then play on the Jamstix MIDI track you don't get drum sounds and the yellow LED does not light up?
