|
|
Hi All
More and more often, when I set up a new project in Reaper, the Jamstix drum arrangement I have created and saved in Jamstix will not load when I open up the project. I have to Load Song in Jamstrix, go to where the arrangement I saved is stored, and load it. This is tedious and time consuming esp as I keep my Jamstix arrangements in a sub folder to each project, and these live on Onedrive. Jamstix doesn't seem to remember last folder used and defaults every time back to its C: drive default. Has anyone got any idea what might be causing this?
Also, as a general question, does anyone know if there is any product development going on with Jamstix? I love its original approach to creating drum arrangements and would like to stick with it (esp as I paid quite a lot to have the full collection of add ons). It seems well worth ongoing development but everything seems very quiet from Rayzoon and I don't get any 'marketing' or update emails from them.
Thanks in hope

but for what it is worth, i am on Win11 and the latest version of Jamstix and have never had this issue.
i was on Win10 until around Oct, 2024 and never had it there either.
i have been running Jamstix since around 2007 on various versions of Win and never have i seen this issue.
this probably does not help.
maybe azimuth can chime in with his input. if anyone can help, he would be the go to person.
maybe there is some permission issue change that happened?

Hi Mike,
Just out of curiosity, did you save it as a Reaper Project Template with Jamstix configure how you want it? I'm still on Win 10 and have never had any issue with Jamstix loading properly with my configured templates or existing projects. Maybe I'm not understanding the question, wouldn't be the first time.
Regarding product development, unfortunately, your guess is as good as mine. I wish I could give you more info than that, sorry. |

Thanks for getting back with thoughts. I didn't used to have this problem with Jamstix and Reaper but somehow it has crept in and I can't think what I might have done to cause it to. Will have to keep investigating, but music making comes first and I can live with this minor irritation as time is not money for a retired hobbyist like me ha ha! |

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I'm still on Win 10 and yes I have set up Reaper Project Templates with Jamstix in place on one track and routed out to separate tracks under the Drum Master bus for kick, snare, hihat etc. I didn't used to have this problem with Jamstix but it seems to have crept in. I keep my Jamstix project drum files in a sub folder under each Reaper project folder but I've always done that and it didn't used to cause a problem.
On general Jamstix development, its some of the little things that I wish could be tidied up. For example, when you go to load a project it never remembers the folder you last used and always takes you to the default C: drive location, leaving you to navigate to the folder with the Jamstix drum porject you want to load. Hey ho I wouldn't swap it as its a far more creative way of setting up drum arrangements than just dragging in loops. |

Hi Mike,
So is the problem that your saved Project Template is not loading correctly or that Jamstix is not going to the correct directory where your songs are saved?
If the former, is (in Reaper) Preferences>Project>Project Settings set for the correct template?
If the latter, would creating a directory junction from the default Jamstix song folder to the location where you save your songs work? |

I load a template, then Save As the song I'm creating once I've tracked in instruments and set up a Jamstix song. I save close the Reaper project and when I open it again and hit play, the Jamstix drums don't play until I load the song again from the directory I saved it to. The directory I save it to is a sub folder in the Reaper project folder as that is good housekeeping for me. I've not tried saving to the Jamstix default folder to see what happens if I do, but I'll try that as an experiment. The thing is though that it wasn't always like this. Either I've changed something that is upsetting Jamstix, or it is being cranky (which we know anyway that it can be, much as I love it!)
Thanks for taking an interest in this one. I'll keep you posted if I bottom out the problem. Its not a huge hassle anyway as I'm a hobby musician not a pro so time is not money for me (I'd never make a living if it was ha ha!)

Hi Mike,
Do you by chance (in Reaper) have Options>Preferences>Plug-ins>Compatibility>Disable saving full plug-in state enabled? That will cause a situation similar to what you describe. |

Thanks for that suggestion. Just checked and the box isn't ticked so it won't be that I think. I'll investigate further when I have time and report back any findings. As I say, it didn't used to have this problem, so something has changed and it was a while ago now so can't tie that in with anything else I might have done. One plugin provider I'm suspicious of is UA - after I bought and installed my first UA plugin, one or two other weird things started to happen, though whether that was actually due to UA I can't be sure. I notice though that they go beneath the radar in interrupting my sessions on the PC whenever they feel like it to say that something or other (probably an update for their UA Connect app) needs to install. |

Do you backup your Reaper configs often?
Once you look into UA and if whatever you do there does not resolve the issue, maybe backup Reaper and consider uninstall/re-install? Or just try reinstalling Reaper first? To do either takes little time. BUT make sure you backup Reaper if you try uninstalling or even just a re-install to CYA.
Another thought, if you have Reaper backups, maybe do a current backup and then reinstall an older Reaper config that you know worked with Jamstix where you did not have the issue you are having now?
BTW, I also have UA, a Quad and an Octo, plus maybe 20 UADx plugins.
If I was a gambler, I would put my money on a Windows Update.
Just kicking around ideas. IIRC there is a way to look at the install history of Windows updates. Maybe you can correlate any updates with about when you noticed this issue and uninstall it if all else fails.

Well unfortunately the only other thing I can think of to try is to set the security permissions for the folder where your JS songs are saved to Everyone temporarily to see if it is an access permissions problem. I truly doubt it though but at least you could rule one more thing out. |
