|
|
It's been a while since I bought Jamstix, too much trauma/drama going on in my life. Things are settling down now and I'm back to try to figure out how to use it.
I've never been able to get any sound out of it. I followed the instructions originally for installing it in my DAW (Reaper) but when I add it to a track and build a song, there is no sound. I can see the little icons as the track "plays", but as it passes each icon, it crosses them out. I'm assuming crossing them out makes them silent, and I have no idea how to make it stop doing that.
Anyone have a solution for this?

| The red X on the events means something is preventing Jamstix from performing it. If you hover your mouse cursor over one of the X'd out events, what does the Status Bar in the lower left corner of the Jamstix GUI say? Do you have a drum kit loaded? |

| When I hover over the X, it says "No kit piece". So I clicked on "KIT" at the top, and I can see a kit in the window. Just to be sure, though, I chose a different kit and clicked "LOAD" and "SAVE". I can watch the kit pieces animating when they should but there's still no sound from them. |

| The drum kit is kind of yellow with gray trim. The mixer window has "FLIP STEREO" and "DOWNMIX" highlighted. |

1) In the Mixer window, do you see any activity on the meters?
2) Since you have "Downmix" enabled, do you have a channel other than #1 solo'd?
3) Have you tried to do a Repair installation with the Manager app?
If none of these fix it, I'm at a loss. |

Okay, today the drumkit is all red.
In the Mixer window, there is NO activity on the meters
I don't know why "Downmix" is enabled; I don't remember doing anything to do that and I don't know anything about soloing channels.
I have not tried a Repair installation. I don't know how to do that.
I'm sure it's my lack of knowledge that is the problem here.... |

Okay, if the Kit is completely Red, that indicates that it cannot locate the sound samples and load them. I would do a repair installation as my next step.
1) Open the Jamstix Manager app.
2) Click "Install Options", make sure that "Install AI files only without sound data" is UNCHECKED
3) Click the "Connect" button.
4) Click where it says "UP-TO-DATE" next to the Green Jamstix label.
5) Choose "REPAIR" from the drop down menu that opens.
6) Click the "Start Installation" button.
Just for reference, do you have any other expansion paks installed? What version are you running also? |

Full disclosure: I've been in limbo since my husband had a stroke four-plus years ago...and then he had a heart attack and died this past January. Everything that's happened since the stroke is pretty hazy in my memory.
I do remember buying Jamstix and have now decided to see if I can figure out how to use it. I don't remember anything about expansion packs. I am going to see if I can locate the Jamstix manager and follow your (Azimuth's) instructions and will report back soon.
I can tell you I am running version 4.4.6 |

Truly sorry to hear about such horrible events happening in your life.
I would suggest updating to the 4.5.0 beta version as it is the latest and has been very stable for me.
When you open the Manager app, under "Install Options" Check the "Install Beta Versions When Available" box at the bottom of the window. When you close that window, the Jamstix label should now be Pink and show "Update". Click the "Start Installation" button and let it update. See if that helps.
Again, I am really sorry to hear about what has happened. |

Thank you...it's been very difficult, but there are always positives once a person is ready to look for them. Heart disease runs in my husband's family and most of his relatives did not get the "extra" four years we had, so we are grateful for that.
I updated to the beta version and I do now have some sound. I am still missing sounds. In fact, all I am hearing is a kick, even though most of the other pieces are not being crossed out (at least one is getting the red X yet), I can't hear them.
And, oops! Now I'm back to a red kit! Argh! I don't even know how it happened. I have a lot fewer kits to choose from than I did. Like, it looks like only two? No, wait...I do have several kits, but no "normal" ones. They're all Latin, African, Middle East, etc. And no matter what I load, all red. Ugh. I can try repair again. |

| If you have any expansion paks installed try doing a repair installation on those also. The procedure is the same as with Jamstix itself, just for the different paks in the manager app window. Also, if you are only hearing the kick drum, you need to enable "Downmix" in the Mixer window if Jamstix is loaded on a single track. |

I'm so confused! All the kits are now red. I did click DOWNMIX and now I can hear everything, even though they all get X'd out (no kit piece) when I play. And it always sounds exactly the same regardless of which kit I choose.
I don't know if I have any expansion packs.
Wait! I think I do. They're listed...
XL Pak
Jamcussion
MetalPak
and 11 more.
I'll repair all those. |

I get an occasional X on a beat, but most of it seems to be working for me now. I probably need to spend some time with tutorials; I don't really know what I'm doing.
Thank you for all the help that got me this far!! |

If you are only getting an occasional red X, that is normal. That just signifies that there was not enough time for the player model's limbs to perform the next called for event or a Fill is playing. That can be disabled in the options if you want, but it is what helps make the performance much more humanistic.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask. If I can answer them for you I'll gladly do so. |
