|
|
Hello. I am hoping to use the midi output of Jamstix(JS) to drive Easy Drummer2 (ED2). I am using Cakewalk by Bandlab(CWbBL) as the host. So I have JS installed as a plug-in on one CWbBL track, and ED2 installed on another track. I set the Midi Output Mapping in JS to EZDrummer2 Modern, to correspond to the ED2 kit I have selected. So far, I can get ED2 to respond and make audio to JS, but the midi mapping is off.
Many of the sounds ED2 plays in response to JS are correct, but some are wrong. JS plays drumsticks to count in the song Intro; in ED2, these hits are played with the sound of the smallest tom drum. The documentation in JS tells me the drumsticks hit is midi note #86; the ED2 documentation tells me the smallest tom hit is midi note #48. So there is a miscommunication there.
Additionally, ED2 plays the ride cymbal bow sound with every snare hit JS makes.
So for some reason, ED2 is playing the wrong sounds to JS midi output.
Please advise. How can I get ED2 to play the sounds JS intended? Is it possible for me to make a specific drum note map in JS so that the output of JS plays the correct sounds in ED2? Sadly, ED2 does not allow the user to change the midi note numbers in their kits.
Thank you. |

Hi EJ,
Yes if something isn't matching up properly you'll have to edit the EZD .mdmap file to match. I think I remember I had to do that when I was working on a song with a friend a couple of years ago. I also think EZD2 didn't have a drum stick sample to match with JS if I remember correctly. |

Hello. Thank you for your reply.
I have not seen anything in the ED2 documentation suggesting the midi note number of ED2 kit pieces can be changed. Do you know how to do that?
Is it possible to edit the midi note numbers generated by JS, so I can match those with what ED2 is expecting?
Thank you. |

| I don't remember if EZD lets you modify its midi map or not, I edited the Jamstix EZD2 Modern.mdmap file located in the C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\midimaps\EZDrummer 2 folder on my system. There is an EZD Vintage.mdmap file in that folder also. Just open it with any text editor. |

Hello. After looking at the Toontracks website, I can now confirm that Easy Drummer 2 does not have the functionality to change midi note numbers for kit pieces.
I will try editing the JS EZD2 .mdmap file as you suggested. And if I have more questions, I'll report back. Thank you again. |

What I've done with EZDrummer 3 and Jamstix 4 is.Go to kit making sure it's on MIDI OUTPUT TEMPLATE,and on your right hand side Ezdrummer vintage or modern (I've not got around to changing it to (ez3 yet ) Right click in Jamstix virtual kit 'add to kit' tom1 Midi output only etc As I've gone for energetic rock in Ez 3 It has 5 toms.So I added them and also the corresponding crashes etc too.You then go over to EZ3 RIGHT CLICK on any of the toms and go to 'midi mapping' edrum/midi in.On the left side half way down it says LEARN.Click that, and go over to Jamstix and click the corresponding drum. All done.Click save in EZ3 and the Jamstix settings will be saved there.I did this in Ableton 11 having Jamstix 4 and EZDrummer side by side,so not to much palaver really.Once you've done it and got used to it.You could do this with any of the EZ3 add ons mapping Jamstix to each drum.I so so Hope Ralph is OK as using this duo in my usual Audio Jam mode is quite brilliant! I've been here from the beginning beta Jamstix, and to see it in all it's maturity is something else! I can sack the drummer accordingly depending on what style I go for without any tears.Oh yeah! _________________ EMU 1820M user |

| That's a great idea Steve. I'll have to try that with SD2 next time I load it up. |
