|
|
Hi, hopefully this isn't in the wrong place. I recently bought Jamstix 4 to use in Studio One. I'd like Jamstix to start playing, or assume the start position as the 4th bar in Studio One. Instead it always plays from bar 1 in the DAW. How I do I make Jamstix understand that my song begins at the 4th bar?
Know what I mean?
Thanks |

Welcome to the forum. I can think of 2 ways to do that off the top of my head.
1) Right click the first song part in the Song Sheet, choose New Part>Create New Part Before This Part. Make the new part 3 Bars long and select @Special Styles>Silent as the style.
or
2) Position the playback cursor in your DAW to Bar 4, in the "Song" drop down menu choose Host Synchronization>Assume Current Position As Zero Offset.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks very much.
I worked out the first way you suggested but I think the second way sounds better. Thanks. |

| I do have some other questions...but I'll try to figure them out myself before I start another thread or something. I'm just trying to get the hang of getting fills to land where they should, not having the drummer play too flashy when it's not called for, previewing different fills, the drummer playing inappropriate fills when such fills are not called for, keeping things super simple in terms of fills, choruses with simple ride accents etc. |

If anyone can help.
I've chosen the Country Kit playing 'basic rock' and I haven't selected a drummer because I found that the drummers complicated things too much and threw in too many embellishments. So it's just Country kit playing basic rock. Easy. Nice.
For my first try with Jamstix I'm working on a song that has a beat and rhythm very much like Bob Dylan's "She Belongs to Me", if you know that song. It's basically kick on the 1 and 3 with a sidestick on 2 and 4. Fills are very, VERY simple - I've programmed in Jamstix just like 2 sidestick hits on the "3&" and "4&" to transition from the intro to the first verse, for example. It doesn't need toms, doesn't need elaborate rolls or fills. Just simple all the way.
After the verse the song goes to a section that needs the same kick and snare arrangement but it needs to have a ride not the hihat. I have managed to replace the hihats with the ride by selecting "Change Sound". But whereas the hihats played nicely in the verse, this section with the rides replacing the hihats doesn't sound right. The ride now sounds too machine-like. It is too regimented. How can I change the timing of just the ride in the bar? At the moment the ride is too clinical. It hits robotilike with too much precision and it sounds bad.
Can I change the behaviour of just the ride in the necessary bars? How? Thanks.
EDIT: I got the above to sound a little more natural by adjusting the volume of each ride hit.
But another question, if you're still with me...
I've got verses playing sidestick but as it goes into the main chorus I'd like to have it start to play a little more elaborate fill (not much more elaborate, just a little more ghost hitting as the fill rolls into the main chorus) and transition as the fill progresses (I'm talking in the space of half a bar) to regular snare not sidestick (so the fill goes from sidestick into normal snare hit)...and then I'd like the chorus to be playing regular snare, not sidestick. I tried to "Change sound" but it seems that it is always playing a sidestick, since that is what I selected in the drum kit originally.
Thanks again
EDIT 2: I just noticed that panning the kit pieces is working in opposite. If I pan right in Jamstix, it comes out the left. If I pan left it comes out the right. Is there some audience perspective setting going on or something here?? |

I would also suggest adjusting the "Feel" controls in the Groove window to see if that helps also.

In the Mixer window disable "Flip Stereo" bottom left under Load and Save. |

Thanks Azimuth, I notice you're a colossal help here in the forums. Very impressive. |
