Hello everyone, I am pretty new to Jamstix and am learning a ton. I have songs with existing EasyDrummer midi data and was wondering if its possible to have JamStix play back this data plus offer embellishments from the brain? Can MIDI Jam function be used for this, but instead of triggering Jamstix from EDrums, use existing recorded MIDI?

IMO it would be better to import the EZDrummer midi as illustrated in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrcn2d4PPe4. This video was done with Jamstix 3 but the process is similar. One major difference is the addition of the "Wrapping" function in the Groove Importer. This will allow the use of 4/4 clips in different time sigs. To change the "wrap point", use the drop down labeled "No Wrapping" initially in the Groove Importer.

Welcome to the forum also.

Ok, I will give this a try. Since my previous ED sessions use multiple midi clips, I suppose I could glue the items together as one big clip and export it to a file and then import it like shown in the video. Or am I overthinking this too much?

It would actually be better set up a song structure in Jamstix that matches your song and then to import the separate clips into each separate Jamstix song part they are used in. Every song part in Jamstix will have its own Groove Importer.

ok, I was able to load a midi clip and Jamstix played it back, but it wouldn't track with the project tempo. It was playing the beat faster. When I switch style back to a Jamstix one, it tracked fine. Any ideas?

I have no idea how that is possible. The tempo is controlled by the host. Could you provide a sample reaper project showing this so I can understand better?

I ended up just using Jamstix on this track and letting it create the drum track rather than trying to import a groove. I actually managed to finish up a couple other tracks as well. I am starting to get used to the workflow in Jamstix. I am still not 100% sure how all the controls work in the Groove screen, but I am able to get what I want by editing the "piano roll" in that window and letting JS do the rest.

My advice has always been "Just because there is a control doesn't mean you have to use it". After using Jamstix for a while, you will find a group of controls that do what you like more than others and find yourself using them 90% of the time.
