Hello All,
I still cannot figure out simple mapping issues. Using JS 4 and Mixcraft 9 Pro as my DAW. All I'm trying to do is mouse click some Jamstix drum hits in to my piano roll to write my drum part. I would just like to consolidate the piano roll keys a bit. No matter what I do I cannot get Kick 1 mapped to any key other than 36 and the snare mapped to any key other than 38. I use Jamstix for nothing other than mouse clicking it's own drum sounds into my piano roll. The input mapping is set to Jamstix. The output mapping is set to Jamstix with General Midi which I don't think I need anyway cause I don't use any 3rd party drums with Jamstix. I click on the snare for instance on the 3D kit then click on the Midi Key button and reassign the Snare from key 38 to key #37, then I try and save everything I can but the snare hit is still on 38 and even the " show key Map" shows that I've changed the key to 37. I've edited the [keys] notepad document which works in the piano roll keys description but the drum sounds never move to their assigned keys. Should I maybe edit the [Keys] notepad document from the "show key map" while Jamstix is open and running? I also don't see any kind of Save button in the Midi Key Linkage editor. Not sure if that matters for my issue or not. I've tried everything I can thing of including reading the Manual over and over and searching videos. Thanks For Any kind of responses or ideas!!!

Hi,
I've been trying to follow what you are doing but honestly have had no luck so far. Excuse me for being dense. What exactly are you "mouse clicking" on, the Jamstix 3d kit? The Jamstix kit does not output midi as far as I can tell when you mouse click on it, it just triggers the samples.
If I'm missing something please point it out. I haven't been ignoring your post, just not comprehending it.

Thank you so much for the response!! You are most definitely NOT being dense! This is 100% me,------------ not understanding and over-confusing and probably over-explaining everything! So sorry for that!! My kit of choice is the
"Rock-Everything Kit. I can left mouse click DIRECTLY on the Snare head of the 3D image and hear a great Snare sound. I can also left mouse click keynote # 38 in the piano roll and get the same great snare sound, as long as Jamstix is in Midi Playback mode. ALL OF THAT IS GOOD!!! All I'm trying to do is move that same Snare sound (sound, trigger, sample, not sure of the proper terminology) from Piano Roll key D2 (note # 38) to Piano Roll Key C#2 (note # 37) in the Piano Roll. Maybe I should just ask how to Re-map a snare sound from note D2, to note C#2? I really hope I'm not still over-confusing the issue but I still THANK YOU so much for trying to help me on this!!!!!

Jamstix' midi map files (.mdmap) are formatted as follows:
[Keys]
0=36 ;Kick

"0" is the kit piece slot for the Kick as noted by the ;Kick comment
"36" is the midi key assigned to trigger that kit piece slot.
A full description of all of the kit piece slots is listed in the user manual in Appendix B on page 73.

What you need to do is:

1) Make a copy of Jamstix.mdmap located in C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\midimaps\Input. Rename it as Jammod.mdmap or something you'll recognize. Make sure it is the .mdmap file in the "INPUT" folder, not the "midimaps" parent folder.

2) Open Jammod.mdmap in Notepad and change the assigned midi keys to what you want them to be. Be careful not to assign the same key to 2 different kit pieces. Make sure that you edit the "ShortName" and "InputName" entries at the end of the file to match what you name the file when you save it. Save the file in the C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\midimaps\Input folder.

3) In Jamstix, with the kit loaded you want to use (Everything I assume), in the Kit window Midi Input Mapping menu choose "Jammod"(or whatever you named the edited file) which will now be available in the menu selections.

4) Now when you record your midi, the notes will match whatever you assigned in the .mdmap file.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Azimuth,
This is probably going to sound totally ridiculous, but I literally cannot express how UNBIELEVABLY GRATEFUL I AM!!! I (embarrassingly enough) have been trying to figure this out from months (actually longer)!! I DID IT, (actually YOU did it)! I'm down in my basement studio right now almost getting emotional about this. I've been doing all of the edits and saving in the main Midimaps folder and not going all the way in to input. And to be quite honest, the manual doesn't even come close to explaining this, which is totally what I needed. This stuff probably comes much easier to Tech savvy folks that don't need it spelled out like that, but I'm an old guy. I'm even able to Choke cymbals by putting ID# 55 to key 72!
Like I said, I'm a bit embarrassed about this , but I cannot THANK YOU enough!!!! If you celebrate the Holiday season, I hope you have a perfect one!!
Ronnie

Hi Ronnie,
Jamstix is really deep and one of the things that completely amazes me is that after all of the years I've been using the software, I still occasionally find something I did not know before. A lot of the things I discovered and learned have been the result of checking out problems other users post they are having. I never had any need to adjust the input mapping before but now I know how to do it if the need ever arises. Besides, us old guys need to stick together LOL. Happy New Year, don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions or issues.
