|
|
I'm having a problem using the freeze function in Cubase SX. The problem is mainly that it doesn't work at all. I can freeze my other VSTi but the button does nothing with Jamstix. Is this intentionally disabled and is there a reasonable "audio rendering" workaround?
Also, the song I'm working on has two different tempos. I exported midi from Jamstix' arranger tab and the midi file exported the whole thing at the second tempo instead of having the tempo changes reflected in the midi file. Is this by design or is there any chance it will be fixed?
Is it possible to have Jamstix respond to midi input even when the sequencer is not playing? SAWStudio doesn't seem to send whatever information is necessary to get Jamstix started. It's ok, because I can use Jamstix to set up the drum track in Cubase, then I would like to just import the midi to SAWStudio. I could then have the midi routed back to Jamstix and still get the sounds. This method works fine with Drumkit from Hell 2, but I rather prefer the sound of Jamstix with it's built in "drum room" ambience. |

I just did this in SX2:
- opened SX and new project
- added Jamstix and added MIDI track with output=Jamstix
- clicked Freeze icon in VST rack and Cubase freezes Jamstix

The JS MIDI export does not support tempo changes. I recommend you record the Jamstix MIDI output in Cubase instead and then save that track to a MIDI file in Cubase.

JS can play MIDI events even if the sequencer is not playing. Not sure about SAWStudio but it does so in many other hosts. Just make sure you are in manual mode with 'Mute Brain' checked so JS acts like a standard 'dumb' drum module. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

A ha. My other VSTi are able to freeze with no corresponding midi output track. I did not have Jamstix set up with an output midi track, but it worked fine that way under "normal" use. After I added the midi track with JS as the output, the freezing worked fine. Sadly, it did not achieve what I wanted. I was hoping it would give me five wav files, one for each output I'm using, which I could then fly in to my SAWStudio multitrack. It did print five wav files, but they aren't full length files. They are only the part of the tracks that are making sound. The kick and snare tracks are pretty much the full song, but the tom track is compressed to only contain basically the "every eighth bar" where there is a tom fill.
What I really need is a good way to get all the outs of jamstix into wav files to fly in to SAWStudio. I'm going to keep working on the midi communication from SAWStudio to Jamstix as that would solve all my problems right there. SS works with other VSTi, but so far, JS is not doing it (which I don't blame on y'all at all). |

Not sure about Cubase but Sonar allows you to 'bounce to clips' to combine several separate audio clips in a track to one big audio clip. I'm sure Cubase has something similar? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Well, if it were that simple, I'd take the extra time and there would be no problem. However, it already records the tom track into a single audio file. The audio file itself does not show up in the Cubase multitrack. It basically keeps some kind of internal pointer map to the different parts of the file and just plays the little bits of the file back at the appropriate times. Although that has given me an idea. I'll see if I can just solo each VSTi output one at a time, and bounce down a mix. That might do the trick to get me an audio file of each drum track that I can actually use... |
