Hi
I have taken for granted how amazing I have thought jamstix to be this past few days of getting to know it.

BUT... I have just found a HUGE and MAJOR problem.

I'm in the RHTYHM page... and I activate some green squares on the kick and the snare to 'write' a pattern from 'scratch'.

I want to name it 'MY BEAT 1'.... so I name it.
So far so good.... but....
Now I want to write a second pattern to compliment it.... maybe some differing velocity's on the kick... just for variation.... and then I want to also make a third pattern that goes into a half time feel.

I can't seem to save these patterns... I hit 'save' and it takes me somewhere where I give a keyword name?

Why can't I just save each pattern I make into a folder of it's own and call it: (for example)
MY beat 1
MY Beat 2
MY Beat 3
MY Beat 4
(etc)
I would typically want to quickly make and save the maximum of 16 beats per song to arrange in the arrangement window.

Anyway.. when I rename and save each beat that I 'write' it just replaces the first beat that I wrote.
So in the arrangement window I only ever get one beat that I have written myself... (as the first ones get written over) I want between 4 to 16!

This is what I want Jamstix for... not 'jamming to' but for writing multiple one bar patterns and arranging them.

Can you explain a way for me to do this? I have read the manual back to back.. but it gives me no idea? Did I miss something?

This is a really BASIC function... up until now I thought that the Jamstix was THE best thing I'd seen! Please restore my faith.

Sincerely
Paspallum

There´s no way to save self- created patterns within a folder structure within Jamstix at the moment.
But you can use the keywords to organize your self- created rhythms.
E.g.: Give your beats 1,2,3,4 the same keyword (like song "XYZ") and Jamstix will present them whenever you look for them via keyword jam.

But I´ve done this numerous times. You must be doing something wrong here. I suggest you follow the example above.

Now this sounds a bit pathetic (no offence intendened). But it´s a basic function indeed and it´s taken care off in Jamstix no problem.
So I answer with Bon Jovi: KEEP THE FAITH! Smile
(You see I can be even more pathetic!) Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the help Doc
I will endeavour to follow your instructions.

But surely.. if my songs was called say....'Faith'... I could call the name of each beat:
Faith Intro
Faith Verse A
Faith Verse B
Faith Half time
Faith Chorus
Fath Bridge
Etc..etc

So that they ar each easy enough to find in the arrange window?

Try this

1. Go to arranger tab, click topmost rhythm name which will automagically take you to the rhythm tab, make your rhythm, call it "Faith Intro" (you can save it or not at this point, it doesn't make any difference)
2. Go back to the arranger tab, click the 2nd rhythm name down, this will again take you to rhythm tab, make your rhythm and name it "faith 2" or whatever
3. Arranger tab, click 3rd rhythm name down, edit rhythm, name it "faith 3"
4. repeat

You'll notice the arranger tab gets the whole list of your created rhythms

Also, you can go to the Rhythm tab and click on Paste. You can then choose which of the 16 slots you want to copy. This way you can create a template rhythm and make variations.

I will move this thread to the support forum and also add (SOLVED) to the header so it doesn't scare people Smile

Okay, here we go: I'll tell you pretty much what Doc and Alan already pointed out.

The rhythm slots in Jamstix are like the patches of softsynths. You wouldn't expect FM7 to magically move to the next patch when you save one patch and load that data into the second one, would you?

However, your workflow makes a lot of sense and it can be done easily in JS. Start with the first rhythm and edit it as desired then name it and save it. Now go to the next rhythm, hit PASTE and OK. Now you have the content of your first rhythm in the second slot. Change it as needed, name it and save it. Repeat these steps for up to 16 rhythms.

If you do not plan to use the rhythms in other songs, you do not even have to save them as all rhythms get saved with your host project data anyway.
