Just letting you guys know that we are seriously considering a significant update to Jamstix not too far after the release, which will bring percussion elements to Jamstix. These will be instruments that drummers often add to their sets; we will not add sounds that are exclusive to percussionists only.

Planned are:

  • Tambourine (switch to add on top of heavy snare beats, another switch to use it on top or instead of hihat)
  • Cowbell (switch to use instead of hihat and a random hit option)
  • Jam Blocks (slider for random hihat replacements)
  • Shakers (switch to use instead of hihat)
  • Chimes (if enabled will auto-play when going out of power play)

Although this update would be significant, we will make any effort to do this as a free maintenance release. However, we cannot guarantee that at this time. We do guarantee that the update will be free for all those who pre-ordered Jamstix!

Let us know what you think about this plan and if you'd like to see it.

So for the people who buy Jamstix when the update is out, What will it cost them?

I guess if you are going to charge the difference in price from the pre order that would not bother me.....CC

If we are forced to charge for it, it will be a fairly small charge of about $10.

This really depends to a large part on the initial sales volume of Jamstix.

The whole thing is really part of the Jamstix 2.0 project for next year but we feel that we just shouldn't wait that long...

I'll certainly use it if possible, but is this a native sounds only feature? How would it work with DFHS?

Yes, it would be internal engine only for now. In Jamstix 2 we plan on offering the ability to mix external and internal engines.

The fact that we got many good responses on the internal engine is another reason why we'd like to release the percussive elements before 2.0.

Just thinking here: depending on the host, one can create a percussive only internal set even in Jamstix 1.0 and connect the MIDI out of Jamstix to DFHS. The percussive elements would then play out of the internal engine and the rest of the drums would come from DFHS with the percussive notes hitting into 'nirvana'. This should work...

sounds good to me. Slight bummer about it being internal only, but your suggestion about exporting to MIDI covers using BFD etc.

will it possible to use both Internal for percussion, external for regular drums?

I am glad I pre-ordered. If any small software company deserves support Rayzoon does!

Thanks

I fully support you in this! Mr. Green

I'm glad to see you're thinking ahead interms of combining drum sources... looking forward to the day when we can load different VSTis for different drums/percussion.

In the meantime, I think it is about time the makers of VSTi drum modules started carering to your product to repay you for adding value to theirs. Very Happy If I were FXpansion or Toontrack, I'd start a tambourine/ cowbell/shaker/jamblocks add on tomorrow.

Okay, I'm done italicizing. Laughing

EDIT - I'd also like to see some kind of percussion module added to the interface, so it can be like you have a drummer AND a percussionist, instead of just laying off the hat every time. Just $.02

Yes, we have plans for a stand-alone "JamPercussionist"
