Title says it all really. I haven't been able to use Jamstix on Mac since January this year. Is anyone having any success on the Mac platform?

I purchased Jamstix 3 several years ago, then got the upgrade to 4 but I've never actually got it working properly.
Today is my bi-yearly check in to see if it's been fixed for Mac yet.
I use Logic X btw. |

I got this working (latest Jamstix 4 Beta) using the instructions here:
http://rayzoon2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8293
Requires BlueCatAudio Patchwork, but it seems to work fine.
Edit: lags slightly |

You don't need any third party product to use Jamstix4 in LogicPro. it can be somewhat convenient to use third party products if you're trying to use jamstix to control other drum instruments instead of built in sounds....but even that is optional.
what problems are you having? |

I've had a number of issues with the beta but the one that stopped it working at all last year gave the error message 'Cannot sync with core". I've uninstalled & reinstalled several times with no luck. I pop in on the forum every couple of months just to see if there's any updates. Today I tried uninstalling and reinstalling again. This time I had a new problem (that has been posted recently by another user): when I install Jamstix manager it simply is nowhere to be seen. ~By that I mean I give the installer permission to install, the installation finishes with a message saying installation successful. However when I go to Finder, or look through my Applications, there is no sign of Jamstix manager.
I usually run Cubase but I also have Logic Pro and Jamstix stopped working on both.

| I’ve been using both Jamstix4 and Jamatix manager off and on for several years on Sierra, Mojave and Catalina. Never had any of those problems. My initial response is that your OS X installation is messed up in some way, nobodies what that would be though. Did you try emailing rayzoon support directly? |

Thanks, yes I did email support some time ago but didn’t receive a reply. I’ve just had a conversation on the forum with a new mac user who has Jamstix working on an M1 mac with Big Sur, so I live in (some) hope. It may be that there is something weird about my os installation but I would expect that to cause some problems elsewhere; I have no problems with e.g. Cubase, Wavelab, Logic, Kontakt, VSL, FCPro, Spectrasonics, BFD 3, Superior Drums. |

Well I'll be danged - I couldn't get JS4 to open in Logic on my Catalina system, and after reaching out to support and being told that it simply doesn't work with Catalina (and there currently aren't any plans to get it working) I gave up. BUT, after reading this thread, I just went in and re-installed it (using the Re-Install feature in JS4 manager) and now it suddenly works! I haven't changed anything on my system??
Well that makes my Friday |

| If there are no plans to get JS working on Catalina, it would be helpful to know what the plans are. People might not upgrade their operating system if they knew. |

I believe the reason it hasn't been explicitly stated is because it's totally hit or miss as to whether it will work for you on Catalina. I believe what support was telling me was that I'm in the group where it's not working, for others it is, and b/c Rayzoon is already facing difficulties getting through some blockers that macOS/Apple presents, they are focusing as much of their time as they can on making the Windows version as good as it can be. I don't know specifically what these macOS blockers are b/c they never really mention specifics, but it is alluded to in general a lot - you can find references here on the forum in several posts.
All that said, I don't disagree with you at all that it would be VERY helpful if there was something posted somewhere that at least says something along the lines of "Mac users - we suggest not upgrading past Mojave for the least amount of headaches with JS4 - we don't support Catalina or higher at this time." Something like that.
And finally, I want to be fair and clarify one comment - in the support response I received, the exact wording was NOT that they have no plans to support Catalina - it was more along the lines that coming back to macOS and addressing the issues and blockers is definitely on Rayzoon's roadmap, but there is currently no timeline for it. That said, they seem to re-iterate over and over again that they have NOT abandoned JS4 for macOS. Actions speak louder than words though. But Rayzoon is a small shop, and JS is not Ralph's only gig from what I understand. So there's only so much we can hope for. |

I have just started using JS as it gives more flexibility in comparison to Logic's Drummer.
Do you know how to get Jamstix to play through EZ Drummer/Addictive Drums on Logic, I dont know how to set it up on the mixer? |

JS4 works fine for me on Catalina. I suspect people having problems are having problems with permissions only...as each version of OSX has become increasingly stricter about enforcing permissions related to signed apps etc...
I can't remember if I did anything special to make it work but I don't recall. I do have SIP disabled for other reasons, maybe that's why it works?
Anyway, what I can say is that it works fine.
The only thing I have noticed also is that in the past Jamstix would automatically create an IAC port to use with LogicPro, but that seems to have been removed now, maybe it was removed since JS3, not sure. Anyway, that means if you want to use JS4 with LogicPro and with other drum samplers, then you need to use something like KushView element, BlueCatAudio patchworks or PlogueBidule to host Jamstix inside it along with your drum sample player...then link them up inside those...
it does work fine for me here, so not sure why others in Catalina are having issues, but like I said I suspect its related to some kind of permissions. Did you try checking console for errors and such? Perhaps JS4 provides some log output also that can help you figure it out...but the software itself...once allowed to run,...runs fine... |
