I am working on a song and want to create parts that are similar to what I posted here:

https://www.reverbnation.com/brianblevins/song/32298247-drums-3-main-parts

There are 3 parts. The first part is a cool Tom thing, then a sort of 4 on the Floor followed by the whole kit playing a really cool part.

Any ideas on how to make something like this in Jamstix? Style and Drummer? JS Kit that might be close?

Thanks
Brian

Hi Brian,

For the 1st part try adding a Tom Groove generator (Groove Window>Brain>Add>Tom Groove) and turn the Prio to -10. There is an issue with the Tom Groove that if you change the Hand Mode, it will force that hand to use only the "Center Tom". I have notified Ralph regarding this. You could also try programming a pattern in the Rudiment generator.

For the 2nd part, I would just hand program a bar of "4 on the floor" Kick with 8th Hats. Vary the velocity of the Hats with the heavier hits on the Heavy beats, lower on the Neutral beats. Add 8th swing to taste. Then use "Save Groove As Style, and load the saved style for that song part.

For the 3rd part, I'm not sure yet. Can you send me a sample I can load into Reaper and check it out? I suspect the Loopey drummer model from the Breakbeat Pak could nail that pretty well.

Jamstix appears to only play 1 tom. With the Center Tom set to 1, it plays only Tom 1, set to 2 only Tom 2 ... 5 only Tom 5. I better look at the manual but to me an option called Center Tom makes me think that toms around this setting may also be played.

so I did change the Hand Mode but as I noted, JS only plays 1 tom but I can change Center Tom and JS will play a different tom BUT only 1 tom will be played.
