I'm triggering SSD4.
I don't know if it's an aspect of SSD4, but continuous hat patterns are horrible. If there is a round robin function in SSD4 it's hard to tell.
I'm thinking I need one or all of the following:
A brain element that "intelligently" round robins a second midi out for a second/more open hat?
Or an element that exaggerates the hit velocities in a "staggered" fashion:
124-127, 100-110, 80-90, etc., so that instead of a variance that increments from 124 to 125,126, etc., it "skips" intermediate volumes so that it's triggering less "close" velocity notes (124 to 125, 98 to 97, etc.)

That should really be done by the round robin logic in SSD4. Make sure it is enabled. If all fails, try adjusting the velocity curve in the kit editor for the closed hats. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

It swaps out samples but at the same velocity/volume.
A great thing would be a way of applying a curve to the velocity of the right hand so it "accents" soft>loud>soft graduated, between quarter notes or half notes, etc.., and then a knob to adjust the "potency" of the effect.
In other words, I want to hear a partially open hat that is changing in how open/closed it is relative to a beat. Or maybe there is a brain element that does this? |

More specifically, in SSD4 there is
High hat tip closed Midi note 42
High hat 1/4 open Midi note 60
High hat 1/2 open Midi note 61
High hat 2/4 open Midi note 62
High hat 3/4 open Midi note 63
Addictive Drums it's 54-57.
Something that scales velocity between notes 60-82, at the bottom 42 and the top 63, with a "blend" feature so that a harder hit changes the midi note to a more open hat, but at a scaled lower velocity.
So you get a pattern where maybe beats 2 and 4 are sent as a 1/2 open midi number, the &s go to 1/4, etc., or an 1/8th note pattern moves through 1/4>1/2 from the beginning of a measure to the end (or reversed). |

Hi Chip,
Are you familiar with Bome Midi Translator? The free version could mostly do what you want, though I'm not sure how bad latency might be. You'd just have to deal with the nag screen at start up.

A nice free tool by CodeFN42, called NoteMapper:
www.codefn42.com/notemapper/
A cut and paste of the description from their site:
"NoteMapper is a VST plugin that allows you to map MIDI notes to either other notes, or to Continuous Controller (CC), Channel Aftertouch or Poly Aftertouch messages.
Each incoming note can be mapped to up to three notes/messages, even on different MIDI channels. This allows you to, for example, let one specific note trigger drum sounds in up to three different drum samplers. In addition, you can scale the note velocity, apply randomization to the velocity scaling, and set a note probability for each individual note." |

I wasn't familiar with it, interesting. There's probably a way to do it with Reaper as well, but I think my New Year's resolution is going to be something along the lines of "learn to let things go and put more music out"... I've spent too many years at war with myself fiddling with drum programs and midi.... |

Wasn't familiar with that, either... if I'd seen this a year ago I probably would have gone ahead and pursued it but I've got to stop tweezing things... |

Easy - just highlight the notes and hit H to humanize them. You'll be give a few parameters to play with that will surely remove the sound of "continuous hat patterns". |
