OK this is a weird question.
I'm using Jamstix (ver 3.x) in a project alongside Spectrasonics Stylus. It seems Jamstix is triggering Stylus to play.
I'm using Cakewalk by Bandlab as the DAW. So in the project, I have one track hosting the Jamstix instrument. I have another track hosting the Stylus instrument, and a third midi track controlling Stylus, turning on and off the four Stylus loops I have loaded in Stylus. I've set it up so that on measure 18 of the project, the Jamstix drummer kicks in. At that moment in meas. 18, one of the Stylus loops begins playing - even tho there are no midi events starting a Stylus loop in the midi track controlling Stylus. By examining the Event List window, I can see no midi event occurring in any track at meas. 18 that would signal Stylus to start playing. If I solo the Stylus host and midi track, the Stylus loop begins playing at meas. 18. If I mute the Jamstix track, the Stylus loop begins playing at meas. 18. The only way I can get Stylus to not play at meas. 18 is to mute the Stylus loop that begins playing at meas. 18.
The reason I think Jamstix is triggering Stylus is because Stylus starts its loop at the exact same measure and beat when Jamstix plays its first note (or drum hit). Again, the Event List view shows no midi events of any kind on any track that might trigger Stylus.
Granted, this pretty clearly is not a problem of Jamstix: it is a problem of either Stylus or the host CWbBL. I'm posting this question here to see if anyone has seen anything similar or might have a suggestion for something I should be checking.
Thanks |

Hi E_J,
In Jamstix under Options>General Options, turn off "Enable Midi Output" and see if the problem disappears. If not, than you know Jamstix isn't the cause. If it does solve it, then you've got a mapping problem in your project. |

Thanks a_z for your reply. So I tried your suggestion and turned off "Enable Midi Output" and this seems to have stopped Stylus from playing the loop when it isn't supposed to. Can you tell me what you mean by "mapping problem"? As far as I can tell, there is nothing in the project instructing Jamstix to send midi output to any other track. What should I be looking for? Thanks. |

| What I meant is that something in Stylus is set to respond to something Jamstix is transmitting and there also has to be some path for whatever that "something" is to get from Point A (Jamstix) to Point B (Stylus). That is your midi mapping problem. You also have a midi routing problem. I haven't used Cakewalk since v.9 and have never used Stylus so unfortunately I can't even venture a guess where to inspect your midi routing but there has to be a path between Point A and Point B you're not aware of. | Thanks a_z. This is not the first time I have seen Stylus misbehave when hosted within Cakewalk by BandLab. I appreciate you taking the time to offer your thoughts. |
