Hey Jamstix friends

I was hoping someone, preferably with some experience with Cubase but not necessary obviously, could help me configure the audiom8.dll for “audio jam”

How does one have the computer/AI recognize the audio input through the VST?

More importantly, how does one set up with the VST(audiom8) with the VSTi(jamstix)...?

I tried to put as a separate track and I also tried to put it in the return and send of the jamstix track while trying to record/playback, but neither seemed to affect the input, so I must be doing something wrong. I’m not a professional, so please keep that in mind

Thank you

Hi CR,

Just put AudioM8 on the same track BEFORE Jamstix in the FX chain (not familiar with Cubase' nomenclature). Then in Jamstix, in the Options>Jamming Options window, adjust the Audio Trim, Rise & Fall Delay to get the response you want. AudioM8 will then vary Jamstix' Song Power level in response to your input audio signal.

I recently bought Cubase Pro 10.5 so I didn’t know what I was doing for the most part, but I finally got it to work.

I have been tinkering with it almost all day, trying to find the settings I wanted, and it is quite an amazing feat.

I really think Ralph is the best coder along with Steinberg.

Jamstix 4 w/MetalPak and Cubase 10.5 Pro are all you need for a complete metal production track (besides your electric guitar ofc, and a MIDI keyboard would definitely be useful) if you are lacking a drummer.

I just cannot believe the unparalleled quality of Jamstix 4, and it deserves the recognition.

Thanks again Ralph, you’ve made working in the studio really fun and extremely efficient.

Thanks again zimuth, (I accidentally cut off my thanks after editing )
I got it down pat now

I want to globally change certain “choices” in the AI

Is there a way to affect it globally???

Thank you a-z

The easiest way I can think to affect the AI globally would be to modify the brain controls in the drummer model until you are happy with the result and then save a Style and Player preset with a common name so you can identify and recall it later. Hope I understood your question.

Yes, and that’s maybe a point of frustration for me. I don’t know why my settings aren’t saving correctly. I usually do this:
AI Brain: Metal Drummer
Drummer: Lars
Default drum kit: metal pak or metal pak classic etc
Style : progressive or modern metal

When I go to load song it doesn’t seem to “stick”- when i click create song it reverts to Rock drums and Machine lets say...and all the metal pak and choices I set/pre set are default to rock

What am i doing wrong? I really would like to just have an pre set because its what I am using everyday

Thanks AZ

I see the problem, you're using Lars. (couldn't resist) Whenever you first load Jamstix, it will always load with the default settings, Basic Rock style, James Stix player (both default preset) & the Rock-Default-Natural kit. That is why I suggested saving style and player presets. Then all you need to do is load the player and style, choose the saved preset for both in the Song Builder and then build your song.
Actually, you should probably also save a custom user kit also if you tweak the Mixer settings for the kit you're using. Then load the saved kit in the Song Builder also.

EDIT: I just re-read your post and think I noticed something. Are you saving your song, re-loading it and then clicking "Create"? If so, don't click "Create". All you need to do is simply load the song into Jamstix then go to the Groove window and continue on.

Ok that means I’m over complicating things as usual so thanks for the edit tip

I also do save custom user kits for the drums, makes it easier

But yes i think i was hitting create song, and I shouldn’t do that? So the only thing to do is set up the parts (v,c,link, ending,) and dont click “create” just go on to whatever you gota do and click the “play” on transport and it automatically starts ?

Thanks again

OK I think I finally understand what you are trying to accomplish. You want to create a new song with the Player, Style and Kit already configured. For that, I would save 4 things first:
1) Player preset(s) configured how you like the AI.
2) Style Preset(s) configured how you like the groove.
3) Custom Kit that sounds the way you want it to.
4) A Jamstix template song containing the above mentioned items.

Now open Jamstix in your DAW.
1) Load your Jamstix Template song in Jamstix.
2) In the Song Builder, clear the default song structure and configure a new one.
3) Now click "Create" to build your song.

You could save multiple player presets also for various Song Part types and after creating your song, choose the various presets for different Song Parts. You can also somewhat automate this process by saving the presets with an identifying prefix. See page 68 of the User Manual and pay attention to the line "if set to default preset and the style has a [*] preset, the latter will be used" contained within the Song Part descriptions.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Hi CR,

I just noticed something while I was checking out the info I gave you. The identifying prefix for Player presets is not working but it does work correctly for Style presets. I emailed Ralph to let him know about it but have not heard back yet.
