I can get results I like from Trigger Fill & Repetition Fill ("TF" an "RF" in the song menu, for those new to Jamstix)
- But I have a few questions:

1. When working on a part, checking or unchecking "TF" and "RF" in the Song Sheet seems to have no effect.
Fills seem to get created whether these are checked or not.

2. Often, fills start with a crash that I don't want, even if "Opening Crash" is unticked (I think it's called that, or something close)
I unticked the box in the bar editor where the crash was going on, for Grooves, Accents, and Fills. Still the crash kept happening.
The crash keeps sounding, even when I turned RF and TF all the way down (under "Fills" in the composer)
* I unchecked "TF" in the Song Sheet, and the mysterious crash finally went away. When I checked TF back on, the crash stayed
away (thankfully!) So, any idea what's going on there?

3. Both RF and TF seem unaffected by what the next part is: A repetition, or a different part....no apparent difference on whether
they compose or not. And they both seem to put fills at the latter parts of a bar. So what's the real difference between them?

I can work around these issues, but I think I'm missing some important workflow concepts. Any help is always appreciated!

An RF is a repetition fill and as the name implies is a fill generated in the last bar before a new repetition begins. A TF is a transition fill which is generated in the last bar before the next song part begins.

Song Sheet Song dropdown>Global Actions>Enable/Disable Start/End Fill Crashes. (not the exact wording)

just bumping this as I have the same question - the fills are created according to the length control in the "fill" composer window but ticking/unticking these seems to have no effect.

what should these tick boxes actually do ?

edit - sometimes it seems to work, sometimes not - can't pin down why ?

The boxes can be a bit twitchy if clicked multiple times quickly or double-clicked, which will be fixed in the next update but here is how you can see it work:

- make sure 'FULL' is checked in the bar editor
- click song menu -> 'Clear Song'
- your parts are gone and only a single 'Verse' part is shown
- single-click the RF box
- you will see bar 4 turn reddish in the timeline

if you got to bar 4 you can see a fill composed for it. Now toggle RF back off. Bar 4 turns yellow again and the fill is gone.

Let me know if this helps or if I misunderstood you.

thanks for the reply Ralph

yes, that works as expected.

What I'm saying is that doesn't work in the songs I've put together...or rather is very occasionally works. Doesn't seem to respect the state of the tick box. Obviously I can remove the fills by editing the 0-100% dial in the fill composer page.

I don't think I'm clicking quickly or double clicking.

In a project that does this, can you do a 'Save Song As' in the song menu and send me the file?

I've checked your project. If you look at the timeline, bars shown in light blue are 'manual' fills, meaning you must have accessed those bars in 'Fill' mode and pressed 'Recompose', which will add a manual fill to the bar.

These are out of control of the TF/RF boxes. If you want to remove them, go to the bar in question, switch to 'Fill' mode and hit the 'Clear' button.

The reddish colored bars are under control of TF/RF. You should see them switch on and off as you toggle the TF/RF boxes.
