|
|
Hi --
I have built a bunch of kits and midi maps over the years, but after reading a few threads (MODO and SSD 5) and rereading the manual (referencing kmap files) it dawned on me that I am not fully certain on what I need to do if I want to make sure that jamstix will use CC4 on an external VSTi in either midi map vs kit mode.
Would someone be as so kind to break down how to ensure I am using CC4 on a custom kit or midi map driving an external VSTi?
Thanks! |

| Jamstix uses only CC4 for the hi-hat openness. It can't be changed so all you need to do is set your external VSTi to match that. |

Thanks for the reply. So it is always on by default?
If BFD, Superior etc, kit is set with a CC4 responsive hat, whatever I do in Jamtstix will include CC4 output on MIDI out? |

| Yes it is always transmitted by Jamstix on whatever midi channel you have output set to, you can't disable it. Keep in mind there is an option to reverse CC4 (Reverse Hihat Controller) under Options>General Options. So if the hat in your external VSTi is functioning backwards, change that option. |

Let me expand a bit on what Azimuth said. Jamstix always outputs hihat pedal pressure via MIDI controller but the selected MIDI output mapping makes assumptions about the 3rd party plugin you are using and you can change that if you want.
If you open a MIDI output mapping in notepad (C:\ProgramData\Jamstix4\data\midimaps), you will see a section [Hihat] with two settings. 'Controller' is usually set to 4 but you can change it here to use a different MIDI controller number.
The second setting 'UseCC' is set to 1 if the 3rd party plugin supports hihat pedal control via MIDI or 0 if it does not. This affects the way Jamstix translates closed hihat notes with an opened pedal on the MIDI output. Let's say Jamstix needs to play a 50% open hihat. If 'UseCC' is set to 1 in the mapping, it will send the MIDI note for a closed hihat plus the CC value for 50%. If it is set to '0', it will translate to the MIDI key assigned to 50% open hihat but still send the CC value as well.
Hope this makes sense. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for the replies. Got it.
Is the kmap file referenced in the manual still valid in JS4?
One slight variation on the question.
If I create a custom kit already mapped to the notes I want for CC friendly VSTi and therefore use the jamstix mdmap file which doesn't have Use CC set in the file. Which way will it default to? |

KMAPs have been replaced by MDMAPs in JS4. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
